View Full Version : A late afternoon ride
... probably not the best idea I ever had. Cold, windy, raining, slippery, and for some reason there seemed to be more than the usual amount of road markings on the roads I chose to ride. But hey - a couple of hours in the wind and I felt refreshed and ready for a weekend of work. Probably should have put the whole wet weather gearset on though, it's gonna take a while to dry out the kevlar and textile

sounds like the sort of thing I would do, puts one in a better frame of mind in the rubbish weather we have had of late

I personally wouldn't entertain the idea of gearing up and going for a ride when the outdoors seem intent of throwing crap everywhere, in saying that, we have been caught in some absolute atrocious weather from time to time and can only laugh at the then predicament. I have known riders to turn and run for home when the weather turns unfavorable, instead of riding through it.

Depends on ... if you are leaving home for the ride ... or leaving FOR home ..

Fawk that. It was hosing down here the other night and heavy rain foretold for Nelson, suited up anyway and fanged over, rain disappeared about 20 mins from home and I ended up leaving Nelson (where I missed the worst rain anyway) at 2am instead of staying the night because the ride over was so awesome I wanted to do it again
It doesn't always work that way but I've had enough epic 'bad weather' rides to not let it ever put me off :niceone:

Riding in the rain is not an issue. It WILL happen to every motorcyclist at some time.
However .. starting off in rain is seldom preferred to bright (and warm) sunshine ..
BUT .. if options are not available ... wet gear gets another test. (Choice being stay where you are or GO)

It's been known for us to home and empty our boots of water, that's when I changed to textile which go over your boots.
Night ride in the rain through road works, all part of the fun of Motorcycling.
... spent many years in the tropics, expecting to be rained on at any time - And I was. So rain is nothing new. difference in the tropics is, it's always warm rain :yes::yes:
Just rode back from Palmy on the V8, had all the rain gear, leakproof boots, fullface helmet. There is something very snug about riding in the rain and staying dry... (with the exception of the trickle down the back of my neck haha). Had to go a bit easy on the throttle but every day that I can ride is a good day.
Yeah, probably have to clean the bike tomorrow! :scooter::scooter::scooter:

Just been for a spin around Te Anau , temp around 1 degree . Still a bit of ice around but not as bad as the bloody grit .
