yeah, snowing heavily here too - 450m altitude Canty. Animals tucked in for the night, plenty of wood on hand.
TV had been playing up prior to this but the snow's fooked it. Aerial guy who put in the cable splitter reckoned we got the cheapest POS dish gear available...he appears to have been right.
power flickering....oh joy.

Good luck down there guys. Stay warm. TV sucks at the best of times. Hope the interweb keeps you in touch with the rest of the world. I made a big pot of soup today if you can get here for some.

No TV like and like Grump power is threatening (flickering) - just shovelled all the snow off the driveway but it will all be back in the morning!

Didn't realise how much I've aged since the last time I did that - 8 to 9 inches last time - only a couple now but gotta stop it from freezing too hard!

Very pretty but that wears off when it doesn't go away and all the footprints and vehicle tracks just turn into mini ice bergs forever!

Never mind! - Happy days! :sunny: Careful on those :ride: out there!

You've aged 8 or 9 inches?! Feck John. Does that mean you're bigger or smaller?

Pffffft. It's winter, it should snow. Stick a stew on the woodburner, hose off the missus, pull out the bear skin and get back to ye olde days. Let me know when the snow ploughs get stuck. That's exciting.
I live in the Far North for a reason... Pineapples.

Light cloud today. That reminds me, I must clear out the leaf catcher basket on the pool filter. Don't want that getting clogged up!

Just rain here. Temp feels quite warm.
Jam night at the pub and then a fang is on the menu for now.

Looking forward to snow on the hills but happy enough not to be shovelling it off the drive.
You got the snow sled ready to go mate? XD

If I had 8 to 9 inches and it was hard - I would'nt wake up for a 100 days and that would be too late anyway - some things are best just remembered!

Get out there in your car with no chains and get on the news for us Jaffas to laugh at :laugh::laugh:

Dunedin is my favourite, always guaranteed to get some plonkers sliding their cars into other cars, cold must freeze up the common sense part of brain.

Must admit we are always on full weather alert when we are in Dunedin - so easy to get trapped there! :cold: When it's cold!

Well, powers back on after 24hrs without. 8 inches of snow, the older fruit trees have taken a hit this time round. Still plenty of firewood though...
Won't be going to the CAMS meeting at levels saturday.

Word of advice for anyone whose power goes out....When you ring, ask for the call to be logged as it takes THREE calls for a fault to be official. If the call center hasn't logged the first couple of calls it WILL take longer...Fuck'em.
Three roads meet in the village here. First one - with the garage and about 10 houses got power 8.30am today. Second one - with the cafe and about 5 houses got power around 10.30 am today. But the dickheads had to come back this afternoon to do the 3rd road - with about 20 houses - because the call center hadn't booked in a fault on that line....Finally back on around 10pm.

Ah, the joys of remote living - 23 cms snow here, 27 a bit further down the road. 48 hrs power outage, folks down the road were still out yesterday. Full day shovelling snow and chjpping ice outta the drive. But fantastic scenery and photos to send to my even more remote-living children. I'm off into town, trying to avoid frozen snow melt on every corner. In my other Suzuki.

Yeah, parts of central Selwyn got hit hard. Lines guys were still replacing stuff yesterday, probably out again today too.
We've still got about 4 inches sitting - and frozen. Can't be arsed going to the workshop across ice with a crook ankle . I've got a good mate at whitecliffs who swears by his pellet fire - without power I'd imagine all he can do is swear at it....I'm leaving the fallen timber where it is till we get a thaw....I really don't fancy dancing on ice with a chainsaw

Are those pellet fires expensive to run and how reliable is the supply of pellets? - hope everyone returns to normal conditions as soon as! :cold:

Indeed. I have a wetbacked logburner and a gravity-fed water system. Not much pressure at the best of times, but as long as there is still water being pumped to the tank on the stand (and its not frozen), it turns out I have some pressure at the worst of times.
Still about 10 cms of snow lying around the place.

Big tank on stand with 50mm bore gravity feed - so quite good pressure. How the fuck it stayed up in the quakes we still don't know..And yes, wetback too.

yeah, the pellet fires need electrickery to run. Pellet feed i understand is lectric plus the fan. If I remember right my friend may have a genny now - post quakes. He seems to have no probs finding the pellets. My take on it is that it's always useful to be able to burn fallen timber - which he can't do now.

You can't sleep in the same room as one of those bloody things.

Whhhhhhhhhhhiiiiiiiiiiiirrrrrrrrrrrrrr, flump, POOF!

Every bloody 10 or 15 mins.

Can't convince my Mother-in-law that "30" on the dial = 30% of max output either. She thinks it means 30C. Wave an ambient thermometer around the room and it reads 15-17C in weather like this. Still, she thinks it's 30C, so that's all that matters I guess.
