Saw it ... he wasted his opposition by one second (well, one second is hardly "wasted") .. I wonder what he would have achieved on a properly running bike ??

While Guy is pretty dam awesome, prospective here is.
Guys time on a 1100 turbo charged GSXR with 380+hp time was 11m 32.6s
Codie Vahsholtz 250 class record on a kX250 is 11:24.792
The overall motorbike open record is Carlin Dunne Ducati Multistrada 1200 9:52.819
For the tin tops Seb Loeb Peugeot 208 T16 Pikes Peak 8:13.9

I hope he gets it running properly and does go back for another go because he is great for the sport as he is not a cliché PR controlled robot.

Don't get me wrong he is obviously talented beyond belief, but for me that fact that he is so different is bloody refreshing.
Sport needs personalities. He has been great for motorsport.

his perfromance record is pretty outstanding, one of four to lap iom at 132mph, yip he hasn't had a win but he's still right at the sharp edge and loads of other top results considering too he only does a handful of events each year.

Not only that at 31 he is one of the youngest consistent top performers he has plenty of time on his side compared to quite a few others.

I totally agree. Nothing against the dude at all and he is entertaining as hell, just seems to drop the ball (or get unlucky in a few cases) at some of the bigger events from what I've seen.

For all the IOM 'hype' around him I believe he's never really done all that well there when it comes to podiums?

Like I said he has years on his side most of the other greats are well into their 40's.

Bruce Ant took what 7 years to achieve a race win but has 10 since then.
I think it will happen, course knowledge seems to count for a lot.
The IOM does not seem to reward brashness for long.
There are exceptions of course.

But this is what I just googled about Guy in his IOM debut
His best lap was 122.10 mph which, at the time, was the fastest ever lap set by a newcomer and almost 6 mph quicker than the previous best.
Staying with the team for 2005, Martin made further strides forward and at the TT was the only rider to finish all five of his races inside the top six. A debut podium in the Senior TT.

Fo sho, although to be fair the ages of dudes finishing in front of and around him this year aren't all on the older side, and some of those guys are more consistent on the wins/high placings too.

I mean you don't race to only ever always finish near the top eh. From some of the quotes I've seen about he himself isn't even all that enthusiastic about his actual racing career. On TT3D doesn't he rate it second to being a mechanic?

Got to make the bucks while people are willing to throw them at you though.

Yeah I don't know but everything I have seen about the TT greats is they do not ever try to ride at 100% there like they would at a short circuit.
I think he really wants to win. But has at least one lucky escape all ready, so I don't think he will take to many chances he is not comfortable with achieve it.

He sees himself primarily as a truck mechanic and says so. Some of the other riders choose to be offended by this as they feel he is putting down road racing as a profession. However busy he may be on other things: road racing, making TV programs, writing a book, mountain bike racing, or whatever else, he still likes to spend some time working on trucks.

When he bought a new limited edition V12 Aston Martin he upset other people who considered him a traitor to his class. That might resonate more in Britain than it does here. He subsequently sold the Aston and last I read was driving a Volvo (a very special Volvo but still a Volvo) but I don't know if that redeems him in the eyes of his detractors.

His book "Guy Martin My Autobiography" is a bloody entertaining read and goes a long way to explain a complicated character.

Doesn't matter what he does someone will be offended by it. Fuck the haters, full steam ahead I say.

A mate of mine in Queensland took us for a ride to see a friend of his in Dalby on our way back from a Velocette rally in Lenox Head about 3 years ago, who had a great selection of "stuff". He had a chain block over a wooden box in his workshop which he hoisted up to reveal....a V12 Merlin...."do you want to hear it go?". Yeah Right. He hooked up a battery and fired it up. Fricking awesome and no wonder he's deaf. Short exhaust stubs breathing flames and music
Just one of the bits of old 'junk' in his multiple sheds on five acres of land

Guy has just shy of 20 podiums at the TT, I believe that would count as better than, 'all that well'.

He's got the pace, just never seems to get that tiny bit of good luck you need to actually pull a win off. The tiny bit of luck being as well as talent, awesome bike, set up, team etc. etc.

Joey won the F1 (Superbike) at 48 years old in 2000 (along with two other wins). So Guy still has at least 17 years, if he chooses, to keep trying. Was interesting to hear him say that he isn't officially quitting the TT yet. He did make mention that this could well be his last one. I guess we'll see next year if he has or hasn't?

Fingers crossed for him all the way. He's an easily likable dude.

I think you missed the point, they ride within themselves at the IOM and the other Irish road events they do not try to ride 100% as the IOM is not the place that rewards mistakes.
I have never insinuated they are not great and supremely talented.

If you can call any part of that crash lucky..... its just as well they ripped out the fence and trees first, then protected the stump with padding that could have been far far worse.

Saw the Martek in the flesh the other day in the UK. Sure is odd.... in an old skool 1990 GSXR1100 street fighter sort of way. Nicely done, just a little odd!
