For some it may be tough to choose but easy for others.

Tiger: Sounds/looks Sexy and ultimately the perfect bike for us for what we want in a bike.
YZF600: My first sports bike, had to make the list.
CB1300: Did everything I asked of it without question.
FZ8: Bought as a fun bike, and it very much was.

I've only really seriously ridden 4 bikes:

a 250cc Hornet (was fun)
a GSX650FU (was fun, then de-restricted was more fun)
a GSX1250FA (was a lot of fun)
a GSX1300R (Is Lots of Fun!)

I owned a GSX1250FA for 18 months or so, it didn't make the list unfortunately though it was a capable bike.

I just looked at the MV F4 - I am still cleaning the jizz off my Keyboard - that is a damn sexy bike.

That I've ridden..

- BMW R nine T, probably the nicest road bike I've ever ridden, engine, seating position, build quality everything is just bang on except maybe the pickup from the very bottom of the rev range
- BMW S1000R, hooligan monster machine
- KTM 450 exc dualsport/motard, go-anywhere good times
- 2003 Aprilia Tuono, good times and it can tour

I'll just take it as the four i'd like to have back...

Manx with iron 500 BSA motor....I'm told it's now a genuine longstroke manx again, pity really as it was fun...

'61 500 Manx - it'd won 4 NZ GP's...bastard Bramwell parted it out two owners after me.

Suzuki T350 - first version, first in ChCh, first sponsored ride.

Mach 3 - foley huck, quick and wayward, no brakes till I sorted out the right linings

Just coincidence I raced all of them, all are memorable rides.

313292 EXC 530....just do it
313293 Beta Rev3....my bad, should have got one 20yrs earlier
313295 KTM 690's ....you can do anything with this bike and they're more popular than a good scar with the chicks
313294 Not a bike but my 4th favourite anything

I havent had that many bikes, but the street triple R has to be one of the best bikes out there.
Very nimble, easy to ride, pretty damn quick for what it is.
I can keep up with my mates CBR1000RR or the new R1 around country roads.

The pic is not my bike but mine looks identical.
The factory set up arrow is so sweet.

I never knew how good this bike is and think it is an under rated bike but before i bought it did some research and turns out its actually known to be a brilliant bike. Wins all sort of reviews against equivalents.

Thinking of taking to a track day. Any suggestions? Will I have to worry about scraping any parts of the bike around corners?

I tend to own my bikes for a long time compared to most on here, so quite a small pool.

1 Hayabusa. Not the most practical bike I ever owned but pure Viagra. Coped with everything, far more bike than I will ever be rider. Only parted company because of finances.
2 my current bike, CB1300. A little grandpa's slippers but will do anything you ask of it and surprisingly nimble.
3 my DR350, more fun than should be possible with your pants on. A bit basic but that seems to add to the experience. If I could afford to have her roadworthy as well she would still get ridden weekly.
4 is the hard choice. The GPX was a revelation compared to my other bikes at that time, but I fear the rose tinted glasses so I'm going to say the GSX1100F. My first foray into big bikes. Very tame even in comparison to my 250s. But I probably learned more road craft on that bike than any other 2. I had to the handling sucked and the carburettor was unreliable.
Still only 1 roadside showstopper in over 90,000kms.

04 ZX10R - Wow, that was an insane one... was going to lose my licence again if I continued owning it though... (even the wheelbarrow replacement wasn't as exciting to ride). Did 17k ish in 18 months.
08 990SM - Hooligan toy, came right after the ZX10... I just got up to different kinds of naughty :oi-grr: Did 63k in 27 months.
10 R1200GSA - After the hooligan above. Ridden it in 3 different countries, I love the swiss army knife approach to handle everything I do. Done 102k in 4.5 years so far.

Honourable mention, provided by work, the trusty 05 CB919. Longest period time wise I've been riding one bike (8.5 years - BMW is next on 4.5 years). Still cheaper to run than the BMW despite being 5 years older. Fill with gas and service every 6k sums up maintenance and I enjoy riding it pretty much every day. Like a puppy, it's happy doing whatever you want to do.

Kawasaki ZRX1200R: My first "big" bike after I gained a full license. This was my pick of the Japanese big nakeds at the time, easily outperforming its counterparts (CB1300, XJR1300 and GSX1400) in terms of engine performance, cornering, braking and riding comfort. An interesting thing about this model is that it has a bespoke Kawasaki engine that has never been used in any other model. Carburettored, but a marvellously responsive donk. A Neptune can added hugely to the riding enjoyment, particularly the off-throttle burbling. Whoar.

Yamaha FJR1300: The best sports touring bike. In. The. World. Nothing else comes close, however you'd like to measure it. A blissfully sublime rocketship that eats highways and alpine passes (two-up with luggage) with consumate ease and amazing fuel economy (remember never to use Touring mode). Each model gets incrementally better. I'm looking forward to riding the latest model with skyhook suspension.

Aprilia Shiver: Despite in New Zealand having the disservice of the world's worst distributor, the Shiver is just a magic ride. The Shiver was Aprilia's first effort at building their own engines and the 750cc 90-degree v-twin is an absolute peach. 105 brake at the flywheel for a 750cc bike of this wheelbase, chassis and weight is unbelievably good. This was also one of the first bikes ever with a credible ride-by-wire throttle and engine modes. Sport was the only mode worth using, as those 105 BHP are hardly life-threatening. Rider ergonomics and a great stock saddle were key selling points for a rider of my dimensions. The rear suspension was a bit overwhelmed when riding two-up, but it was nevertheless a credible touring motorcycle, with great fuel economy making up for having a 15 litre tank.

KTM 990SMT: While not the world's prettiest bike in terms of its styling, and quite underfinished for its price in that sort of orange-plastic-fuel-can look that KTM used to specialise in, once on board and riding it this was a very easy bike to fall in love with. The engine offered great performance (apart from fuel economy) and was amazingly malleable. Suspension was sublime. Brembo brakes are always memorably good, even their ABS ones. One had to be very nit-picky (other than with the lack of finish for the price) to find much fault with the SMT. Two-up riding was amazingly good -- indeed just as good as an FJR1300. Disappointly KTM don't do anything similar to these any more.

If it was like the SM economy in 6th was awesome... you just had to do 130kph+ (unless you re-geared, re-tuned, then 120kph+ was possible). Economy in 5th was horrible.

Ah... the suspension. So awesome, I don't think I'll ever go back to normal suspension travel bikes... certainly not in NZ.

I have never ridden a FJR1300, or a BMW R1200GT, but I have read many bike magazines the BMW R1200GT beats all other bikes as the best touring bike in the world, hands down.. Guess its horse for courses?

1) Laverda SFC: Just because of what it is  been on my lustful wish list since seeing one brand new at Eric Woods in the late 80's
2) The Old ZXR: knew it inside out, it went like a cut cat. Had me grinning more times than any other bike so far.
3) GS1200ss: probably the best value for money bike I've had so far; solid, simple, & dependable. Once tweaked just did all the right things at the right time without breaking a sweat...lazy old school with a touch of modern.
4) Laverda 1200: with the money thrown in to this it was a beast of a thing, freight train power & a sound like nothing else when the taps were opened but a true Italian love/hate relationship

A pretty short list for me

Suzuki TC100 - the bike that started it all for me, and I thrashed the living shit out of it until it was completely dead, a couple of years of most excellent fun.

Honda CB360 - my first adventures as a young lad travelling decent k's on a road bike, as long as you took some tools to retune it along the way.

Yamaha XJ600 - average but damned reliable and capable UJM that got me out touring with missus on the back, and got her and me hooked on travelling light on the bike.

Ducati ST2 - Makes me smile every time I start the old bitch up and listen to that Ducati rattle....

An R1200GT is not a bike that exists. You're probably thinking of the R1200RT which is a great bike but is a long way down on power compared to any equivalent year of the FJR.

Or thinking of a K1200GT/K1300GT, which had the 4 cylinder engine vs the boxer of the RT

1964 Rickman Metisse - 1975, take an obsolete noncompetitive motocross bike, bring the power up to 1973 specs and ride it on the road (it's 1975 remember). I was in heaven, the best handling motorcycle I've ever owned.

http://i1009.photobucket.com/albums/af212/bmwr65/scan0021.jpg

1981 Honda XR200, I don't have a photo of this bike, but we all know what a prolink XR200 looks like. This bike got me riding fast off road again...I felt like I was 16, riding it 110% and being bulletproof.

1987 Honda XLV750, my second favorite bike of all time. Way too heavy for it's intended purpose, but it was an excellent back road and gravel bike for me.

http://i1009.photobucket.com/albums/af212/bmwr65/Awakino-2_zps5f9f02ce.jpg

1997 Yamaha DT230 - Yamaha advertised this bike as a motocrosser on the street - I think i've been here before. Loved this bike, my last fling before I traded my MX boots for slippers and bought a BMW.

Mmmm, let's leave the humble GN250 that started it off the list...

1. My current Busa is rather nice.
2. FZR1000 was a bit mental back in the day, 1989 if I recall correctly.
3. CBX550F was a smooth ride for many miles as well.
4. GSX750F that I spent a few years on did lots of things adequately, if with little excitement.

kawasaki km100, learnt to ride on one of these and thrashed the arse off it.

1975 cr250, (belonged to a mates brother but i rode it more than he did) fond memories of this bitch as it threw me through a barberry hedge and in to hospital for two weeks.

1979 xr250z, first bike i actually owned and spent a lot of hours riding the fire breaks in the forestry between Te Puke and Rotorua as well as the forestry roads around Kawerau

and my Trusty zzr1100, haven't yet decided whether it will get buried with me or handed down

Bugger, tried to resist but...

TDM 850. Still surprising me after many, many years. And a bike ahead of it's time. The only bike I have owned which unfailingly can match my mood and roads I want to ride.

Aprilia Tuono twin. Introduced me to the laughing bike, handled far better than I could imagine, had a wee Italian chuckle every time I came out of a corner at 40%, was comfortable, which I never imagined, and visceral.

DT 400. Speaking of visceral, Stan Stephens tune and a bite like a Bull dog. Laugh? It was possessed.

DT 230. Amazing bit of design. If Yamaha could build a 2t that good in the late 90's imagine how good they would be now? Pulls from nothing, linear, grips like a tank and tells lies about how fast your going into the next corner. Good brakes...

Want.. Really want.... TDR 250.

GPX250 ( I don't have a pic of it) but it was fun for a little bike :sunny:

DR350 go anywhere, mostly un brakeable :msn-wink:

And the current ride. F800GS  It fits just right too, and I like riding it :niceone:

that I have had
4) CBR 600 F2 - because it was my first bigger bike. did everything well. had reasonable powEr and was very forgiving.
3) TZR 250. an adhd teenager hiGh on cocaine. loud, obnoxious, lots of fun. loved this one
2) XZ 400. cruiser. unreliable. loud. shit electrics. fuckall preformance. leaked shit everywhere. lights worked intermittently. but sounded like sex, and I loved it
1) 08 R1. probably because I worked on it and lightened it so much.
