View Full Version : 6R testing at VTNZ Westgate?
Has anybody done their 6R through VTNZ here? I would've liked to do the cbta but its out of my price range and the giant L plate is embarrassing. Never used to have it on but almost at the demerits limit (My German helmet and skull mask on a hyo make me attractive to revenue collectors). An extra 6 months waiting for full doesn't bother me.

You should just get your plate done with a German L so it matches your outfit =D
There are quite a few posts on license tests if you have a nose, and I think the NZTA website also runs you through what you do
Also the CBTA route means you can go for your 6F sooner.

You get what you pay for. If you're out near Westgate, that's where one of the best in the business is - Philip McDaid ( http://www.riderskills.co.nz/). You have nothing to lose by going and having a chat with him about options.

Yea i did my basic handling test with him, and bump into him occasionally at the gym, The main reason i plan on doing the VTNZ route is because of the cost.

lol yeah the big L plate, I know it looks embarrassing but I used mine, yup did the hard yards, but what a huge rewarding feeling passing the 6R and having the privilegde of throwing out the L plate. I never went through CBTA, a few more months and I am able to go for my full but through VTNZ again.

Consider yourself lucky you can get a big L plate.
We had to make our own. I had some insulation tape on the left hand bottom corner of the plate as mine. I had to replace the tape once a month. Wish I had had the option of a huge yellow sign.

I remember the one time I rode with an L plate, to my restricted test.
Still felt mighty satisfying ripping it off afterwards.
Had a few mates fit the plate, then tear it off, leaving a small corner of yellow, and putting it in the boot.
Get pulled over, and say it got ripped off.

back in the day i absolutely refused to put the L target on my bike, even the ass hole of a MOT cop we had understood that one and didn't enforce it. tho he did enforce everything else including making me push my bike home when i dropped the bike and broke the mirror and showed him me ripped trou with fresh blood and the broken mirror i had stuffed down me shirt.
