Hi

I just had my front brake pads replaced by a shop and they are squeaking when I use
the brakes relatively hard.
I'm pretty new to motorcycle maintenance but I'm guessing it could be the rotor?

Not always. My last bike which was new was squeaking almost straight away. Can be pad type. Ring shop and ask.

Mine would do it when bike was traveling slow with only small amount of brake applied normally in town traffic and louder when near good looking ladies.

Put a bit of oil on the pads ... they won't squeak then .. :innocent:

Have you burnt the pads in?
get up to thirty and near stop quickly.
Get up to forty near stop quickly.
Get up to fifty etc until you are getting up to 70 and repeat until you can smell the brakes?

Bed the brakes nicely and makes any lans and groves in the pads needed to match your rotor.

It also gets rid of the glaze the coat the pads in to prevent corrosion during shipping and storage without spreading it all over your disk.

yeah .. all that - get the pads bedded in ... I've never been as anal (Not quite the word I'm looking ofr but it will do for now) as Biggie ... with new pads I squeeze the front brakes numerous times at different speeds when I leave the shop ... and make sure I give them a good workout on the way home .. which, for the passed 20 something years is on rural roads ...

It can also be a small amount of dust ... which will burn off as they bed in - I've found that blowing the pads clean with compressed air has also stopped brakes squeaking .. find an air hose at a grage that will blow air without being on a valve and give them a blast when you check the tyre pressure ...

That won't work if the dust has got hot and stuck to the pads - you have to wait for it to burn off again.

"Lands" and "grooves", you mean? You're welcome.
BTW - don't do this on a damp road infested with tar snakes.
You could end up landing on your head, right in front of some road workers.
And get mild concussion.
Which ends your fondness for AGV helmets with polycarbonate shells (which - apart from the public safety message - is the only good thing about this cautionary tale).

Aye. Probably shouldn't post this sort of thing after my bedtime.
