Bike needs a new bottom end as of Monday :(
I have been quoted $2000 for parts but $2000 for labour, I just can't afford it.
Just got a WOF, new front tyre and battery in Feb, only 35,000 kms.
After market exhaust, touring & original windscreen, pack rack, tail tidy, aftermarket seat, 16 tooth rear sprocket I think , owners manual with bag with receipts of work done ( I have only had it since Feb, so this is previous owners receipts)
I would like to keep the mirrors and hand guards.
$2500

If you believe that, try it. I just bought an '08 bandit 1250s abs for $5000... With a working engine.
Say you repair the engine, get it working mint... Cost to someone would be about $9,000... Not much cheaper than a brand new bike (aren't they about $13000?). And yours is 7 years old.
Wouldn't it be cheaper to buy a new engine? Find an engine from a written off bike and swap it over?
Linky to LC4 engine, incl shipping is about $3,500 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/2014-KTM-690-ENGINE-1875-MILES-SMC-enduro-duke-almost/252035037668?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%2 6asc%3D29979%26meid%3D5497f396e8f54574a18713d03baf 9a0f%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D2315 55003186)

Its not worth anything really, the $500 offer was just because of my good nature.
You've been quoted a minimum of $5000 to have it fixed, where just 37 secs into trade me I found one anybody can purchase for $6500 without even haggling the price down.
Life's hard sometimes.

Yep $4000 is asking a lot, yep life is hard sometimes, the shock/disbelieve has worn off.
I've dropped the price. Thanks for the offers and advice. Might put it on trade me or eBay even.

Put the rego on hold and save some money to fix it later.
Maybe learn how to do it yourself while your saving.
It would be a great bike and I would buy it and repair it for myself if it was the correct price and I had more money sitting in the bank.

Question is the engine in parts or was the quote an estimate of what could be wrong.

No the engine has not been pulled apart but she did not sound good and there were metal in the oil. got them to check the top end but it was fine.

Your call but if it was me idd save some money, sell some stuff I didn't use anymore and fix it when I could.
If your not prepared to do it yourself at least remove engine to cut some costs and refit it after.
The 2k parts and 3k labour sound like some sort of guess.
Or sell it to me for 1k.:msn-wink: I would offer 2 if I had it.

How about $2500?
I just bought another bike 2 weeks ago and a diamond thingy for wifes 50th so I am skint at the moment. If its still yours in a month let me know.
$2500 reserve on tardme is going to create enough interest to get a bidding war started perhaps. Asking more and its likely to not create that sort of interest.

Few questions:
How do you know it needs a new bottom end?
Did it run low on oil or something?
What was the mileage on it when this happened?
Any warning signs beforehand or did it happen suddenly?
Thanks

Could be a clutch basket or something else perhaps.
