Hi everybody,
After being bike less for a bit, it's almost time to get back in the game.
Pretty much decided I am gunna buy a super tenere.
Previous bikes are KLR 650, to a Ktm 990.( loved the 990. Did 40000clicks in 3 years)
Then moved on to a tiger 1050. Was keen to ride just the road for a bit.
Have been doing my research on a new ride. Everything points to the super tenere for my needs and wants.
I like the low maintanence of it. The 990 cost a it to much in this regard.
The question I have is regarding the difference between the latest model ( 2014 onwards) with a few tweaks , compared to the 2010-2013 models.
I test rode ages ago a 2010. And I liked it.
I am trying to decide weather to get an older one say 2010, or get the 2014.
Is it worth the extra bucks just for a few minor enhancements? A few extra horsepower and a new digital readout?
I do like to farkle my bike, so I would be looking to improve the breathability of the bike, and or maybe re flash the ECU ( that's if I get the older model).
I would love some feedback from super Tenere rider out there with your own experiences and opinions.

A mate I ride with has a 15. Fully farckled. Ohlins, akra, saddle, racks etcetera. He does big Kms and takes the beastie everywhere at a good pace. He has made the ABS switchable. Can't help with your comparo question sorry.

I've had a brief (road only) ride on a '13 S10 and I really liked it. It carries it's weight pretty low - and that's comparing it to my lighter V-Strom. The donk is nothing startling but she'd eat miles forever. I really liked the handling - I chucked it through a set of twisties at a good clip and it didn't faze it at all. Comfortable riding position, possibly would need to look at different screens for better weather protection. I would have loved to have gone in search of gravel...

I'm looking at updating the Vee soon and the Tenere is on the list along with the new Africa Twin and others. I just haven't decided on whether I want a bike that could potentially take over some of the work that my Connie (126,000km old) does as well as gravel road surfing.

To me the tenere is a great do it all bike. On road , and slightly rougher roads. Just gotta nut out which one to buy. Older and cheaper or the latest model. Leaning towards a good secondhand older one.

Talk to Rick (MCR) in Dunedin. He takes his everywhere. Done a few tweaks also apparently. A friend tried one and loved powersliding it around gravel roads. Sadly it did not agree with his wife's back. Not sure if it was position or vibration but she was not happy. I took my missus into Central and over Dansys before I bought the Tiger to get agreement..

Yeah thanks for that. I have already had a chat to Rick. He is very knowledgable on the subject.
Any other Super tenere owners out there that would like to comment?

Rick is knowledgeable on the Super Tenere - here he is in 2011 on the Yamaha Safari.

There is something about the sound and presence of a big bike powering through rough terrain that oozes awesomeness. Those two photos are great Dave :niceone:
