Interesting notion, but its been around for a few years (so nothing new) - from memory the key rebuttal to the philosophical debate was that the notion of Death in a Computer simulation is redundant and how does the simulation account for human reproduction.
but still an interesting notion, especially over a Bong or two.

Its an interesting idea - I have heard of the speed of light being referred to as the maximum "processing speed" of the universe. Will we eventually be able to create our own simulated universe within the simulation we are in - and how many simulations could be running at the same time  The distance between planets and solar systems and the theoretical impossibility of being able to travel at anything near the speed of light could be seen as a convenient way to keep us from stepping out of the limits of the program.

I think therefore I am.
Matrix, even Men in Black played with the idea. Like was said it goes back a long way, longer than history.
Just another way of looking for the meaning of life.
As to the distance between planets, the human animal is working on it, they are re-examining the theory that limits this. A theory devised on a tram traveling away from a clock tower, whilst it forfilled a purpose is perhaps a bit simplistic

The Theoretical Physicists that come up with these ideas aren't usually high, sad reflection on the general public that they need drugs to even try and understand it.

Unless the simulation is supposed to simulate a "what if" scenario... Then death is entirely needed as is reproduction & they both need to be as accurate as possible to the devs society (God's image if you want to get biblical)
Hell us computer simulations even introduced death & birth into our simulation game The Sims just to give some realism

Disagree - Unless there is a reliance on any organic matter that degrades over time, then there is no need for death, unless you go down the Matrix line of:
"Did you know that the first Matrix was designed to be a perfect human world where none suffered, where everyone would be happy? It was a disaster. No one would accept the program. Entire crops were lost. Some believed that we lacked the programming language to describe your "perfect world". But I believe that, as a species human beings define their reality through misery and suffering. So the perfect world was a dream that your primitive cerebrum kept trying to wake up from."

If I wanted to find out say what would have happened if Germany had won WWII [Godwins law invoked] then I would need to have my simulations live & die like we do otherwise I would never have an accurate simulation like wise if I wanted to see the effects of introducing say a new "medical breakthrough" I would need it to affect the simulation as it would us incl death otherwise I don't have accurate data
You seem to be thinking too much "here and now" but there's a good chance we're a "long term study" going generations, & our decades might only be mere minutes to them

I think therefore I am.
Then Nietzsche asked "Does the 'I' do the thinking or does the thinking construct the 'I'?" .. for which there is no answer in western philosophy ... it's a chicken and egg question ..
The problem is that western philosophy can show not direct and necessary link between what we think we know about the world, and what the world may actually be like in reality ... as the article points out, this seems sophomoric .. however it is a deep issue for western philosophy ... Western knowledge can be based on a 'use value' .. but that is not the same a 'truth' ...
So, what is 'ultimate reality' ??? Who the hell knows ...
And having suggested that we can't prove what reality is - then ANY imaginably (and some not imaginable) universes MAY in fact be the truth ...

It may be redundant but who are we to know the mind of the programmer? We have no idea what they're thinking.
... how does the simulation account for human reproduction.
Bits of data replicate a damn sight easier than we do. No reason to think that this can't be part of the simulation.

btw. The measureable frequency of the earth is 8hz. When you align yourself to that 'speed', perception changes.
Similarly, something a few of you round here might even know about, when riding an motorcycle enthusiastically, your perception of time changes. Fractions of second start mattering, start become processable by your 'brain', where normally they're lost in so much noise.

Space by definition is a vacuum.

space is defined as a vacuum but it is an incomplete vacuum and whilst we need vibrations to hear other creatures may not,
All creatures need vibrations to hear (at least all known creatures). For sound to travel there must be a medium (doesn't have to be air). It travels by transferring the motion of each particle to the next. If a particle is too far away from the next particle that motion can't be passed on. Therefore sound can't travel. In the "vacuum" of space the particles that are there are simply too far apart for sound to travel.

change the up to down or left right
you can then center it or put it on left or right using the three setting next to the bold italic or underline.

Not just hearing, all of our human senses are vibrational. Sight, hearing, smell, touch, taste. Then there are the ones that most humans are not yet aware of.
Let's see...
Sight is either vibrational or to do with particle interaction depending on whether you consider photons as waves or particles (they exhibit properties of both).
Smell is chemical.
Touch is to do with electrostatic repulsion.
Taste is also chemical.
And yet, you a correct, without the vibration of heat none of the above would be possible. At absolute zero all things would vanish if it weren't for quantum affects.

Not necessarily. Waves don't travel well through a vacuum. In a vacuum photons act more as a particle. IIRC this is one thing that led to the discovery of the wave/particle duality of photons.

Tell me more...................
Photons are "particles" of light. In some ways they act like waves and in other ways they act like particles. For example, take a single photon and send it towards a pair of slits. Out the other side you get an interference pattern that no particle could produce. On the other hand the photo electric effect relies on the fact that photons act like particles. Solar panels wouldn't work otherwise.

As for whether our universe is a fake...fuck, I hope so.
According to the definitive work on the deep philosophical question of existence:
There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable.
There is another theory which states that this has already happened.
