View Full Version : Can I borrow someone's bike gear?

TheDemonLord

And no, its not because I have a weird Leather sniffing fetish or because I want to ride round in Drag....

Long story short - After much Nagging, I may have persuaded my Wife to come pillion with me (Yay!) but she is unsure and doesn't want to splash out on the cost of Bike Gear unless she likes it and feels safe.

So, I thought I would ask if there are any ladies who either have a spare set of gear or wouldn't mind lending a set out - as I am an ATGATT Nazi, I would be looking for Helmet, boots, Jacket, Gloves and trousers. Obviously gear would be lent on the basis of We Bin it, We bought it and I can also ply you with Wine as a Thank you.

I have a date in mind for when this would be, but no point in working out the finer details if no one is keen.

Happy to be PM'd if you would prefer to talk about this type of thing not in public.

It may help if you give an indication of size.

Not sure on Helmet size

Gloves are an Alpine Star Small
Boots are a US size 9

I will have to get the waist sizes - I would guess the Jacket would be a women's Large?

Do you Lasses know if there is an easy conversiony chart thing where I can put in her Dress size and it will tell me the appropriate leather size.

Also - In addition to the offer of Wine based bribery, there may also be chocolate.

Unless it's a leather dress, with armour...no.

I have some gear that I don't fit anymore ...
Sidi Leather Jacket 12/14 -
Revit Textile Pants 12

And I have
Revit XS Gloves - faded but still good working order
HJC XS good condition

Also - In addition to the offer of Wine based bribery, there may also be chocolate.

:wings: This just gets better and better!

May have a helmet, pair of boots and pants however will have to check when I get home.

No jacket though unless I can convince the better half to give it up for a few days

Mind PM'ing me the dates?

He's from Gore.

In (or near) Gore ... "Lady" size is deemed as unimportant ... for good reason.

You'll have a better chance of getting a root ... and a better chance of her making you breakfast ... (win win)

When I used to work in a bike shop a few moons ago....
It wasn't popular but a size 10-12 jeans is a large, 12-14 jeans is an xl and so on.
Jackets are much more difficult. Same sizing but add an x if she is busty, much easier to bring in a waist than go up a chest size. (note: really busty women tend to fit mens gear better.)
IF your pillion is easily offended by this system use the euro markers. (same sizes but making something euro makes it more palatable.

Leather fits differently to synthetics it tends to be more form fitting but this is because it is much more forgiving. I would recommend always adding an x, failure to do so normally results in either a dieting or a pouting pillion.
For either you want to buy the smallest that will accommodate the largest part, for me (when I wear ladies gear) it needs to accommodate a longer than normal spine and arms and thicker than normal neck.
Going to big in the waist to accommodate this is not a problem get the gear damp a couple of times and it shrinks where its loose and stretches where it is tight.

Just to borrow for a trial run doesn't matter how big it is as long as the armor is in roughly the right area.
I am a 5-7xl depending on cut. Plenty of maidens have borrowed my gear.

Getting an approximate helmet size is easy.
Tape measure around the head at the most bulbous parts front and back.

Then looking down from the top:
Asian brands are fairly square.
HJC and American brands are fairly oblong.
Euro brands are fairly round.

Only the pillion can decide how perfect a fit it needs to be for first ride.
If you are friendly with a particular bike shop most have some older helmets they lend out for test rides and explaining she will need to buy gear if she enjoys her self should net you one.

Did someone say WINE?!!!

That is entirely acceptable to pour into the leathers. Chocolate can be rubbed onto the leather as well.
Marinade in the sun, on the back of a fast bike during an afternoon's "pootle", and you have a deliciously edible meal at the conclusion of your ride!:devil2:

I think you are a little confused. And understandably so, when that is the only reaction you get from women your only conclusion is that they are "gagging for it". :bleh:
