View Full Version : Auckland cruisy ride sunday?

Waylander
23rd September 2005, 20:30
Anyone up for one? Thinking out to Kawakawa bay like the last one I was on with Buggy. May have a newbish Pillion so want to do something I've done before. Nothing too quik either so all bikes welcome. I will not be going any faster than speed limit. At the moment the route is the same as Bugjuice's with stops at Maraetai, Kawakawa bay and Kaiaua.
Return trip is optional we can either come back the way we went or plan another route. I will have two map books with me, one of all NZ by region and one more detailed of Auckland area, so no worries about getting lost.

Meet at:
-BP on Chapel Rd (next to K-Mart) Its on the correct side of the road to go straight through to the Whitford rd roundabout. Instead of turning right at the lights for the Pak'n'Save carpark, go straight - 2nd set of lights go left.

Meet at 1:00, leave BP at 1:30. Please do not be late.

(Yea cut and paste from Buggy's thread.)

John and the litre crew are having a ride on Sunday, you should hook up with them. They're pretty cruisy.

Waylander
23rd September 2005, 20:41
Wich John? And unless you are being sarcastic, I doubt I'll be able to keep up with a bunch of semi skilled sportbike riders not with a pillion. And cruisy to you is pushin the limit to me so I wont even go there lol.

Going to do the Red Knights (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=15362), on Sunday, but other than that, I would be interested...

Waylander
23rd September 2005, 20:48
Doesn't seem like that could be a very long ride Gremlin. Any guess as to when it may be over?

Gremlin
23rd September 2005, 20:50
Not a glue... would have to ask someone who has done it before..

but if I get out front and they have blocked roads for us, mebe I could do it a little faster :devil2:

You could go on the ride as well if you wanted, then we could meet up afterwards??

Waylander
23rd September 2005, 20:53
Could be a thought Gremlin. Have to see how many others are interested in going to Kawakawa

Gremlin
23rd September 2005, 20:57
Other thing is I have no concrete idea of the route, nor how long it would take, nor how the hell to get back from Middlemore...

but that's what maps are for :niceone: Normally just have a squiz before the trip to figure it all out...

Also just had a thought. I'll definately be bringing my camera so if any of the places we stop to regroup (if need be and enough peaple show up) and such, if someone wants a shot of thier bike to see about having it put in the calander. Could do that.

(EDIT) Just had it suggested for 1pm any one have issues with that?

(disclaimer: I'm not guaranteeing that your bike will be in it only that you will have a picture you could send in)

bugger, I'm out, have to wait until next time then...

hehe, get this. For the charity ride start time is 1100. Leaving for Middlemore at 1200... What the F do I do for an hour?? Not like I can wheelie or do burnouts :weep:

Have to do some KB shirt hunting...

Gremlin
23rd September 2005, 22:14
Arrrrr bugger, changed my mind. Won't bother to go on the ride, haven't had a decent ride for weeks. And the charity run looks like it'll be boring as hell, with no fun.

And to meet you too, well, that's just the icing on the top

1300 it is then...

Normally would mate but the pillion I'll be taking might not be allright with a longer ride. And I don't like taking passengers on rides that I havn't been down before.

Next time though and if you're gonna come back the way we are going, if the tiing is right, maybe see ya out there.

I'm keen, i'm going on the RK ride, if they leave at 12 we should be able to make middlemore reasonably quickly and then be able to make botany in an hour, unless we're ridding zimmer frames?? if they do take it a 20kmh then i'll just skip out early. looking forward to it.

Divot
24th September 2005, 20:48
I am also going on the RK ride, but then are looking for a ride after so will try and make BP Chapel by 13:00. :2thumbsup

Gremlin
24th September 2005, 22:07
I was going on the RK ride, but they are only leaving for Middlemore at 12.

Getting from the city, with excellent traffic is 30 min, and I'm guessing that the charity ride will be going slow... Good luck.

If you're late I'm not 100% sure of the route, but should be the usual Whitford-Beachlands-Maraetai, so you can try catching up :Punk:

Was quite an enjoyable ride. Weather looked a bit off from the start as it did for the other rides and we did get a little wet.

We all met up at the BP stood there for a bit waiting and I did my pitifull attempt at a pre-ride speech. The count was 3 cruisers 3 sportsbikes and one semi-sportsbike (hehe Gremlin) I started out being the leader but that didn't last long. No sooner than we left Botany Down that I had to get y sunglasses out to stop the rain hitting my eyes (yes I was wearing the beanie helmet cause Mrs.Pillion had my full on. Anyway I lose track of everyone else fairly quikly but that's ok, less temptation for me to ride beyond what I should.

Meet up with the group at Whitford(?) and someone (can't remember who) turned back. The rest of us went on and at Kawakawa Johnsf1989 turned back. (down to two cruisers now....) On we went and once again I'm at the back before long with no one else in sight. (I'm such a slow rider:whistle:)

The sun came out almost as if to reward those of us that went on and it started to warm up.

I had one close call around this time where as I came around a right hander, I completed the turn and tried to straighten the bike up. Didn't want to for some reason. So we are headed twords the centerline with oncoming traffic. I realize that it's probably my passenger still leaning into the turn. (I did tell her to lean with the bike and straighten up when I do before the ride) I quikly lean the other way pushing the bars to countersteer so nothing bad happend but I passed by the car going the other way with very little space between. That was my only worry moment the whole time. Even the corner that almost caught me out last ride through there didn't surprise me this time. Even pointed the spot out to Allun (he was behind me at that last ride)and whoever was on the red bike who were following me at the time.

On the way back I don't know what happend but apparently we missed a few turns somewhere. Ended up going down a road that had some really long straights on it and I played tag with 115mph on my speedo. Apparently Slashwylde was thinking the same thing cause he gunned it pretty hard through them aswell. He looks mean as from behind on the bike aswell because of how low he hangs his head and the Black Label Sociaty vest he was wearing over his jacket. Told him he needs to get a german style helmet some dark shades and a black hankerchief to tie around his face lol

We ended up coming back into Auckland through Papakura, where Ms.Pillion lives. Offerd to take her home then but nah she was having too much fun with us. So we all split off with Allun, Slashwylde and me getting off the motorway to get back to thier place.

Then did my little burnout that you see in my Avatar. (Wicked Allun thanks for that!!) I love the smell of burning rubber.

Wicked ride and awesome weekend. Thanks Slashwylde and Allun for letting me crash at your place and everything else this weekend.:not:

Was indeed good after the weather cleared up - plus i had a buttload of fun being tail ender (when i felt like making sure everyone made the correct turns or when i stopped and took photos) then having to catch up - those long straights were great for that! Oh and sorry Gremlin dude, but when i passed you the CBR was whispering sweet nothings in my ear...something about 230 + seeming very attractive :tugger:

Took all of 4 pictures but here they are.

1: The riders minus three (me and Allun snaping pics and Jonsf1980 sitting on his bike)
2: The bikes in line
3: the three dream machines and Johnsf1980 (tried to stay out of the "group" pic)

4:Ms.Pillion doesn't like photos being taken of her.

Yeah that was funny - screaming ahead to pull over and get some pix, putting the bike neatly on the stand and running back down the raod a bit to get some action shots, and nearly falling into a damn ditch!

The action shots aren't even worth posting, shoulda taken the proper camera!

Next time.

It was me on the red bike! I had an enjoyable ride thanks and it was a good opportunity to run in my new rear tyre. The only "missed" turn was the option of taking the right-hand turn after Hunua and heading back up to Clevedon. As Gremilin and Slashwylde continued straight on through the gorge, Drako and I waited for the others to catch up, before following. As usual Slashwylde forgot to cruise on his cruiser! ;)

Can I see mine too?? First action shot of the bike.

Allun: :wait: yeah you thought it reeeaaal funny to mock my "acceleration". Not kidding folks (yeah I also know my bike at the quickest around) but I was accelerating hard, cranking it past 11 on every shift. He starts to pull past, then drops back. I think WTF, he pulls along side (me is still accelerating hard btw), looks at me, then races off  Just for kicks he did it on the motorway as well... but I waved to him when I passed him

Very good ride... and as for the turn not made, its not my fault :doobey: I had no idea of the route after Clevedon. Its Slashwylde's fault... :bleh: I was following him

I also believe Draco had a good laugh when I managed to pass her along a straight :chase:

Doesn't matter, my very first action photo  and the star on the headlight is a nice touch...

The funniest part is that I had no idea you were there... I knew you were somewhere... ;)

I can see what people were talking about when they said I make the bike look like a scooter though. Kinda like the black look as well.

Need to get yourself a nice cruiser mate. 800 or higher, then you wont have that problem. And don't even say they don't handle very well.

Gremlin
27th September 2005, 23:15
And don't even say they don't handle very well.
OK, they don't look very good... :dodge: :chase: And they don't accelerate as well (when compared to "proper" sprotsbikes ). And their top speed isn't as high. And they don't have the 'dangerous' look about them (you know, the one that makes cops follow them just because... :2thumbsup )

Nah, as much as you like cruisers, they don't do anything for me. But sprotsbikes are just... well as someone said... sex on wheels.

Heh Cops leave cruisers alone cause of all the patched riders out there, if that doesn't give a dangerous look I don't know what does. Get a good cruiser and it goes just as hard as a sprotsbike.
And get the right one and you might actually stand a chance of having sex on your wheels. On a sprotsbike the tank just isn't comfortable to lean back on.

Gremlin
27th September 2005, 23:27
err... you tried to convince me, but I still want a sprotsbike. :doobey:

As for sex on wheels, at the moment there isn't a "other". And I don't care about the comfort of the tank, thats her problem. And she would mess up the handling of the bike (not just on the slow straights either - won't explain as to why the straights might be slow )
