Q. A - 17% = 100

How do I work out what 'A' is?

bogan

A=100/(1-0.17)=120.5

Work backwards.

100 = 83%

I was fine with maths until they started mixing the alphabet in with it.

100 divided by 0.83

A=100/(1-0.17)=120.5

120.5 - 17% = 99.65

Are your calculations always that sloppy?

bogan

120.5 - 17% = 99.65

Are your calculations always that sloppy?

I think its your calcs that are a bit sloppy there sport; cos that equals 100.015

But if you want to get pedanty, the 120.5 was rounded to 1dp, 6dp would be 120.481928

Though if we were that pedanty, one would point out the notation in the question is wrong to begin with.

bogan
3rd September 2015, 21:53
No, my calculation is actually spot on.

120.5 - 17% = 99.65 exactly.

:laugh: How about you write it out as you type into into a calculator and we'll see why it isn't then.

Cos 17% of 120.5 still looks like 20.485 so far...

Speak for yourself, rounding is pretty standard practice.

Just how did you fuck it up btw?

I'm picking entering 120.05 rather than 120.5.

Ok, here ya go then...

Nah, I mean specifically, what you call sloppiness on my part is just rounding, standard practice, and I dare say self evident in the answer I gave.

What you fucked up is obviously in the methodology, the figures were wrong right from the first digit; just how (specifically) did you manage that? :rolleyes:

Do you actually expect him to admit he is wrong?
Anyway, must be about time that he posted a picture of his laundry outdoors somewhere. Oh and Yonkel hasn't said "cognitive dissonance " for a while, that must be coming up?
And then we can rinse and repeat I guess?

Speaking of significant figures ... is this a fail too .. ???
A bit sloppy. But rounding is generally okay these days. I'd call that a pass.

A = cake, if you eat 17% of cake, you no longer have 100% of cake.

The concept of a significant figure: 36-24-36.

What we have learnt from this thread: If you have had a motorcycle repair bill in the central north island, check the figures. You are probably due a refund.

Not like I could tell? I knew there was something odd about you the moment you started going off at casherfromwayback for no good reason ( motogp thread ) , your admission of Aspergers ( my guess was plain and simple autism ) only justifies my suspicion that you're a fucking mess. Please stay in and post in Australia only :wacko:
