Hi all,
I have just scored myself a Rg150 and i'm loving this rad wee bike so far, however I have read up about the power valves and would like to check them out. Does anyone have a digital copy of a manual, and any tips for checking these out? The bike has done 40,000kms but has had a recent top end rebuild. I have done many rebuilds on various engines so mechanical skill isn't a problem here, but its my first RG and i'd like to do it properly.
Any help/advice is much appreciated!
Thanks :scooter:

Ha! Not on this bike mate ;) just saying I'm not green when it comes to disassembling this kind of stuff, just need a manual and any tips to do with the disassembly before I crack into it.

Update* I have got to the valves taken everything off, they move Possibly around 1.5cm then stop and the little suckers won't come out any further. Doesn't seem too gunked up. Any ideas ?

Well the bike has a real kick from 0-8k rpm then falls on its face (still revs out) but no power

It's a 150 cc .. at best you might have 10 Japanese ponies at your disposal to use ... (at or near redline) ... have you been at (or near) the redline yet on it .. ??

Update* got them out! They were so gunged up I had to use acetone to loosen the old carbon/2stroke oil in order to remove them. They are out now though and don't seem to be too badly damaged. http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/09/08/d59110cd42379e9c43d2827b44ae7514.jpg

Haha funny ;) its already quicker than my old xv500 and that's whit the half stuck power valves. With them fixed it'll be a real we rocket ship. 36hp from factory, should be real fun up the twisty bits

Thes wee units are big in Asia.. could be worth a check on some of the places that support them, such as Tyga..

There will be heaps of info on the RGV UK site about PVs which are same evolution. They are known to get sloppy as they start to seize and fret the rivety centre thingy. Regular cleaning should prevent that.
But be sure before you sling them back in as failure would be catastrophic.
About 30hp at the rear wheel of a good one which is pretty impressive.

Kind of.... Got it all back together and it was working perfectly, took it for a quick ride and was like a new machine completely. Revved out nicely with a nice kick up top. However the next day on the way home the engine started to lose power so I shut it down straight away. Got it home and the big end Bering has gone. Bike is now fully stripped and will be getting a full rebuild including all seals, gaskets, piston, conrod and all bearings also frame will be fully stripped and resprayed (colour still to be decided) should be one of a kind once rebuilt but its still a bit disappointing.

Yes, oil tank was over half full and it was smoking just like a 2 stroker should but it didn't seize, the spacers either side of the rod on the big end side are all but destroyed, and the Bering is worn causing the rod to knock badly.
did you put oil in it?

You know what they say?
If it ain't broke! Don't fix it.
Sounds like , ready or not you've now got to rebuild the entire machine.
Lucky you're not a bone idle uni student or similar.
You'll get it sorted soon enough, they are a goer, but don't expect too much from it, it is after all a small bike.
And welcome to KB.
XV aye, hummmm, noice bike. The one in my pic above is the Oz assembled 81 XV Nee TR1, fully rebuilt from tyres, wheels up.

"If it ain't broke" - is head in the sand approach.
He maintained the top end and averted a known issue through maintenance. If the PV gets fretted it will drop into the cylinder. That the bottom goes later is bad luck, but we are talking about a , what are they? 15 yr old? Small cc bike with a genuine 200bhp/litre output. Goanna need some attn at some stage.

Exactly, engine is completely apart now and crank will be pressed apart soon. All other parts were in surprisingly good condition, all transmission related parts looked excellent. All bearings will be replaced and new oil seals and gaskets fitted then the conrod and all associated parts (Bering's and shims e.c.t) will be replaced and it will be reassembled.

If you feel you must replace some bearings , I would only bother with the mains unless there is some obvious problem with the others. All the rest swim in oil and have a lovely life

Good news finally the bike has been fixed, I took the liberty of stripping the entire bike and replacing any parts that were broken while I was at it and cleaned all the rust off the frame, sealed it and resprayed it. Here's the final result.316897316898316899
