Have been riding a 99 rm250 for a couple years, had a kx125 before that. I am in need of an upgrade, have had a few rides on my mates different four strokes, a 06 rmz250 and 04 crf250r, but I am pretty dedicated to the 2 bangers. Problem is basically all my riding these days is up muriwai cause I live so close, and to be honest my mates 4 strokes tend to perform a bit better in the range, but im putting that down to my old worn bike haha, so what later model 2 stroke kicks 4 stroke ass on the sand ? probably 6k at the most price range, cheers

The best 2T's on the sand are the 500's no doubt, at that price range though you might be struggling to find a good one. They stopped making them over 10 years ago and not many good ones left.

Suggest looking at an older KTM 380/360 if there are any left on the market or, another 250 in good nick eg KX, CR250 or a YZ250. They still make them and 10 points to Yamaha. 6k won't get you much though. Caveat Emptor and all that

look for a ktm 250sx around '13 model year if its in the budget. could even throw on a 300 barell. they run decent even without any engine work. theres always the trusty cr500. should be a million of them available for dirt cheap

You'd get a bloody good bike for 6k. 2010 rmz450s going for around that money

6k will get you a 2=3 yr old bike in good nick , any of the 450's with EFI will get the job done .
For a 2 smoke 250/300 as well for 6k Yam, GasGas, Husky, Husaberg . KTM , Beta for a 2=3 yr old bike .
As they say $ talks.
