View Full Version : Triple clamp straightening anyone?

biketimus_prime
21st September 2015, 21:33
Have taken my bike to a couple of places as the forks and handlebar are slightly turned to the left when going straight. They all said it was the triple clamp as the forks are fine, I have loosened everything and tried resetting it all back but had no luck.

Does anyone know where I can get the triple clamp checked and straightened if required or does anyone have a triple tree for sale for a DRZ400SM?

Thanks in advance

No recommended companies in Auckland?
I can't take it to waikato. I would probably have to send the tree and forks down for a full inspection and I can't freight it.
I need somewhere in Auckland. Surely people who ride dirt bikes would know someone.

try ringing steve for a start, he may not need the forks, he may even just need the triple clamps, put them in a courier bag and put a return courier bag in and you don't have to go far.....

life is hard aye, ask your mum?

She works during the week and so do I. I ride the bike daily and have no car so I need to be able to take a day off work, strip it and drop it off to get the work done and back together at night/on the weekend.

sounds hard.

take your mum on a road trip and ride the fuckin thing to Hamilton.

what if you pull it apart and send bits down to get checked, and your frame is the bent bit?

p.s. Lens got a fuckin train or 3 you can use to get around on.

spend the weekend perfecting wheelies, once you've got it you can ride to work without your front end.
thank me later as you'll retain those wheelie skills and they are a real fanny magnet.

Already been checked and it is the clamp, frame is fine

Don't know how to do wheelies, they're dangerous anyway.

checked by who, somebody who fixes bent bikes, on a special machine?

or by some mechanic, who changes oil, with their eye?

You really do seem to have a phobia about dealing with anyone outside Auckland don't you.
I'm not sure what that's all about but it's mildly disturbing.

It's a big wide world out there past Bombay, Tonto.

See the measuring rig in the link below? It's probably worth >$20,000 to replace and it's unlikely that there'd be more than another couple like it in the country, let alone people who actually know how to use it.

http://rapidartnz.com/Services/ChassisS.htm

You could always just stay within Auckland and ride with your bars and forks pointing to the left a little bit.

Their website says:
"We also straightened twisted triple claims; it is a beneficial if the forks and axle are included when sending triple claims for repair."

I can't ship it all down. I need a place in Auckland to get this done.

Why specifically? Clearly all the smart people must live somewhere else.

it is beneficial, doesn't say essential, give the man a ring and see what he says..
often a punter thinks his triple clamps are bent, but doesn't know that the forks or the axle may also be, pick up the phone, please, and put us all out of our misery.

Why specifically? Clearly all the smart people must live somewhere else.

I have stated my reasons previously but essentially I need to get this done within a day, so it is best if I can organise with a shop up here and get it all sorted out. Easier than travelling all the way to hamilton.

I took a frame to Steve once he's got a fancy machine.

It was a bit skarwy going over the Bombays but once I found you could still get a flat trim soy decafe latte it was ok.;)

From memory they have cash machines there too.

Found a place in Auckland to do it, thanks to nzspokes!

I also found another place that can do it too: http://www.magwheelrepairs.co.nz/

So anyone from auckland looking for this sort of info in the future you're welcome :)

I need help.

Thanks for the red bling stating I was most unhelpful. In fact if you get a grown up to help you comprehend what I was saying, you may find that I (along with many others) pointed out the best place you could get the service you required.
That was assuming that you wanted it fixed properly and correctly, not just by somebody with a hammer and a straight edge.

That rest of my comments referred to the fact that in this day and age of being able to send a man to a floating house in space, and being able to send and receive goods from all over the planet. You cannot seem to drag yourself off your mothers tit long enough to work out how to get a triple clamp 150km away and get to work for a couple of days.

Maybe you could invent an App for it?

Phew, lucky, now you Aucklanders are fully self sufficient & don't need anything that's produced south of Papakura.
Lets see what happens to you guys next time someone hits a gas main somewhere down by Mokau again. The Chai Latte brigade had a fuckin meltdown last time & it was very nearly the end of the world.

That dude... Just 5 mins on the phone with him and I know I can trust him for sure. I just know he's on to it. He said he even has a spare DRZ400E triple clamp I could try first. Will definitely be visiting him after I get my full and I can take the DRZ off the road and ride my other bike.

Thanks again for the suggestion.

As for nodrog. I specifically asked for a place to get the clamp straightened in Auckland for my own reasons. If you can't help me with that, you should have never commented.
Actually I appreciate you suggesting F1 engineering. But your responses afterwards were useless.

Oh also nodrog. I wasn't going to say shit and just let you be. Until I saw you gave me negative rep too. So it works both ways jackass!
