Planning to buy the Bike in the video but can't see it in person , asked for a video , to me it sounds like something is not tuned, compared to other 250RRs I have heard . What is your opinion ?

Sounds a bit like mine on a cold start with lots of choke

It seems the choke was closed as soon as was started up but doesn't sound as free reving . Maybe it's lack of my experience with these bike

Probably one of the most entertaining reviews I've seen done of the cbr250rr
https://youtu.be/IXt7fQsDsk8
Think it has a bit of a walk around with the bike idling as well

Yeah I have looked at many videos online , that's why when I heard the sound of the CBR of the subject I felt something wasn't quite right. That's why I decided to ask .
Also comparing to this video of the same age bike :

Benz, why?? You can now purchase up to a 660cc 'big bike'? Yes the CBR250 is a 'quick' 250, but you really need to consider, age, mileage, how many or types of owners it's had? The 250 boys will tell you they are unbreakable etc, and to a certain extent they are right, honde do usually build reliable solid bikes. BUT! they are a high revving machine that basically needs it's 'neck wringing' to make it perform. Again 250 boys may say, it's got torque. no it hasnt, not really. It's tuned for top end performance. We on KB have over the years chuckled at ad's on tardme, where a bike has been sold that is an obvious, cheapo chinese fairing replacement, cheapo exhaust can, and suddenly a known shitter {one of the members actually has known the bike before the advert} is advertised as a top dollar bike.
Regardless of anything, high revving performance means 'highly stressed', even with the best maintenance possible, the bike will in the end, develop faults that are going to cost you on the motor.
Have a look at things like the ER500, GS500, same sort of performance, but half the rev's.

Thanks Graywolf for your input , I appreciate it , I started on a second hand ninja 300 and sold it and got myself a new triumph 660, however I need money and have to sell the bike. But I am hooked and want to get something around 4-6k . I really like the four cylinder ( or three ) over two. And am looking for something not older than 1990 and not done more than 20-30000K. I read lot of good things about CBR250RR but all of your point are valid .
I'm after a weekend toy, to ride it in a good weather for maximum 2-3 hours a day. And something I actually like to ride and to look at.
Been looking on TM for a while and didn't find anything else beside the CBR250RR with four cylinder and a bit of look it has.
But I haven't ridden one ( ridden cbr600RR courtesy of a friend ) but not 250RR.
They seem cheap and would suite till I get the full licence ( on learners still )

It does sound a little weird but it could easily just be the microphone on whatever he's using to record it.
Ask him to wheel it outside and use someone else's phone. Or better yet, go see it in person.

I guess this (http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/motorbikes/motorbikes/sports/auction-964961617.htm) is the one you're looking at. CBR250RRs are great and all but it does seem like a lot of money for a 25 year old bike.

I gather you want something exciting for a little while until you get your full. Go have a ride on this (http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/motorbikes/motorbikes/sports/auction-883134298.htm). 125cc may sound small but an RS125 is definitely not a boring bike.

That's the bike, unfortunately I can't go in it as I'm live in North Island, hence the video .
I will try the RS125 but I think that's a bit too weak for me , but I shall find out

I bought a brand new RS125 in '04 when nobody knew what they were. It has cleaned up a huge number of much larger bikes over the years & completely engaging to ride.
It's one of those bikes I'll keep forever because there's nothing quite like it.

The CBR is a hoot to ride. Absolutely hilarious how far they rev and not too bad a handling bike too, you do need to absolutely scream them to have fun though so keep that in mind. Their engines from what I understand are an absolute bitch to work on as everything is so tiny, so if anything were to go wrong you would be in for the big bucks to fix them. That said it is a Honda and provided it's been looked after (there is no way of knowing) then you should be alright.
I do think these bikes should have dropped in value a bit since the new LAMS laws came in though, they are no longer the fastest thing a learner can buy (bar the 2bangers that is which are now banned).
The RS125 would be a good weekend toy, never had the chance to take one for a spin, but I was racing on a 1980 GP125 in buckets last weekend, if it is anyway near as much fun as that then pounce on it fast!
I may be in Timaru over the next few weeks so if I'm there I will pop in for a looksie, I would suggest you may be able to find something closer to home though if you look hard enough.

Thanks Autotech, let me know if you go down and look at the bike, would appreciate your opinion on it, if it's not sold prior.
And the cost of repair is what comes to mind about the 250RR or any other bike.

Cheaper and lower ks:
http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/motorbikes/motorbikes/sports/auction-962920726.htm
Ask him for a reg number so you can carjam it and check KMs. 4k ONO means you could pay less than 4k...
Or this one:
http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/motorbikes/motorbikes/sports/auction-967287352.htm
Being in Chch would also mean you don't have to fly as far to check out a bike, flights from Welly to Chch not too bad mate.

Mine is a bit rough so was cheap by price comparison alone, but I would have thought you could still pick up a decent condition one for under 4k, probably even mid 3's.
Personally I think those linked ones are priced a little high, but then again people are often surprised on here by how much more things sell for than they thought.

I just picked up a second mc17 with live rego for $900 last night, needs front wheel bearing done, and steering headset.
There's one in taranaki for $1400, so the CBR can be found for cheep if you look around.

Is there any forum or other online advertising place for these bikes beside trade me ? I am looking for one which is relatively in good condition as I don't have tool nor the place to rebuild a poor condition one

Those older MC17's aren't worth as much as the (comparatively) newer MC22's.

Not really, tardme seems to have a tight hold on NZ as they plunder millions off us in fees.
If you are hell bent on getting one, book a flight to Chch and arrange to check out all 3 CBR's listed here in one day; which ever one seems the best, buy it and ride it home :D
Happy ending without the rub n tug

Also remember, the cbr is a 4 cylinder, it will cost the same to service as a 1000cc 4 cyl, regardless. There is also the ZZR250 {GPX250}/ GSX250 both are reasonably good looking bikes, and 'only' twins, not much slower than the CBR, and cheaper to maintain. {2cylinder} seen them both for a lot less than that CBR and with low K's.

Best that you ignore ol' Gaywolf's dumb-ask grandad.. BS 'advice'.. he doesn't have even 1/2 a bloody clue..
CBR/RRs are not directly comparable wiith shitty econo-twin learner/commuter 250s, & if you really want one, get one.. simple as..

Oil and filter every 6000km, carb clean every now and then, bit of oil down the cable sleeves every now and then and the occasional once over. The only mechanical work I've had to do on mine in just over 8000kms is oil and carb clean, the rest has been asthetics

Already going past it's service interval, and according to the book, you should be doing 'something' every 4000km's.

Is your 660 12.5k and 550km on clock?
Don't understand why your wanting to sell it for a 250 4cylinder bike 20 years old and pre trashed.
Personally I think you should get a part time job and pay the trumpet off if you owe money on it.
It wont be easy to sell something so close to the new price.
bennz
21st October 2015, 21:27
I don't owe any money on it , I like the bike a lot however I realised for my occasional and short joy ride, paying that much money and Letting it sit around is not a good idea. And I'm moving places and won't have a parking secure enough for it , and don't want to be worried about it every day . Something cheap, yet fun will satisfy my riding desire and keep the cash in my pocket, plus I won't be worried for it. Then when I have the full , I will be having much more options with my money.
Whilst the price might seem close, it is in immaculate condition , so anyone after a 660 would be thrilled to have it and save some $$$
I haven fully decided on the 250rr that's why I'm asking on here to see the opinions and feedback .
