Whenever anyone mentions hyosung they say "high sung". It actually pronounced "h yo sung". Is it just convenience or do they really think thats how you say it? Even the hyosung dealer in Takapuna says it wrong.

Not that i really care but its weird they cant say it right.

It is tricky to do it in our tongue, we must cross to a native correspondent...

Don't expect too much, Hyosung is a foreign word. Many people can't spell "eh" and that's English - and it only has two letters.

I blame the Minstry of Education and a succession of fuckwit ministers.

...maybe!! (But seeing as I hate most modern plastic computerized shit...I highly fuckin doubt it!) :killingme

Without a word of a lie, the question raised by this thread did cross my mind on the ride home tonight.

...seems pretty simple to me, if you can read...Hy- O-Sung...three syllables...a lot of people can't read...doesn't make them dumb, just lazy and disadvantaged...

Sure this is how is spelt in korean 효성

It should be pronounced as "hyo sang/sung".

Thinking the same with the sung pronounced 'soong' rather than 'sung' (so not like 'sung' a song)

Its not soong its a "sung" sound but the ung is like a saung sound. Like song. But a less emphasis on the o and a bit deeper.

Ah fuck it. Just say hi sung.

That was a quick turn around, but trying to teach New Zealanders how to pronounce words correctly by spelling them out is never going to work is it?

I met her at the Civic. I’d been Holden up the bar all night and as she walked in, I looked her Rover. I thought she seemed Familia, but that was just a Mirage. She came up to me on her own Accord. I said ”Audi”, and she told me she thought I was Galant. I lied to her and told her I was an Executive. I was just being Calais. She was quite a Starlet, wearing a nice Mini, but not like that of Hunter.
Her name was Sylvia and she was a real Trooper. I’d drunk a few Corona’s when I tried to Impreza. She told me not to Porsche it. I told her I wanted to Lancer. Turns out she was an Escort, so by her standards I wasn’t that Ford. I didn’t want to pay – she said “you don’t know what you are Nissan”. So I paid. I took her back to my place – or HQ as I like to call it. I had a Bighorn and, of course, I was an absolute Legend.
Later, when there was a Prelude, I went to see if there was any food left in the Lada.
It was a great night, but I really should have worn a condom because you see, I left her with my Legacy – a little Bambina.

Yes. He even had the decency to call himself 'Steve' instead of making us Kiwi's try to pronounce Seung Jun. And he probably speaks better English than many KBers.
