Apparently there's a missing Desmo out there somewhere, could you hide one away and not pull it out for a fang?

Richard Sandd raced bikes in NZ in the early to mid '70's. Same bloke.

A while back he also stole a RC45 and painted it black. That bike was found in his lounge when they also found the painting he stole from Auckland gallery/museum.

Stealing is bad and I totally would stick a screwdriver to bike theif's eye sockets but this guy... I'm kinda impressed. Just sayin he's no regular.
The owner would've insured the bike for $250,000 anyways :sunny:

I'm sure after riding it for a couple of weeks, he was glad to have the $130k instead.

Is that the bloke that took it for a test ride with the owner following & just accelerated away never to be seen again?

If I recall correctly that was from A Honda dealer in Timaru or Ashburton.

The RC45 was taken from dealership in Hamilton on a test ride, painted black & had a hole cut in the frame; shop cliamed insurance got paid out, bike was found a year or so later. Insurance company sold bike, brought by BP at Honda Country in Ashvagas....new plastics & frame sourced now sits in the shop keeping the NR750 company or it maybe the one he sold to purchase the NR? He had two of them to choose from:rolleyes: choices aye

Shouldn't to hard to find if it is being used as they are the only bike in the country to run a 200/55x16 rear tyre.

Supposedly a ram-air feed for the airbox  just done with cookie cutter through the r/h spar. Before it was refurbed with the new frame the hole was just covered over with some carbon fibre sheet.
When BP ran both 45s on the dyno it ran about 5hp more than the other.

If he just had a regular job for 40 years & put away $50 per week he could have one of those horrible ducati's freehold, and the RC45 as well.

According to the superb reporting of The Harold...
Romanov's colourful reputation came after being convicted of multiple gunpoint robberies, including stealing an $8 million Tissot masterpiece from Auckland Art Gallery in 1998.
He escaped at high speed on a motorbike and was eventually found in a Waikato home wearing a wig to disguise his identity, with the priceless artwork rolled up under a bed.
How can the artwork be priceless, when they have just mentioned its price?
The harold retards are beginning to make "stuff" look remotely intelligent.

Yup that's the one. He took it from the shop for a test ride with the sales rep/ owner of the shop following him on another bike. He did a runner and the bike disappeared for few months till it was found on his property.

I remember it was big news at the time. It must be well over ten years ago now.

How do you arrange for ram air on the dyno? High pressure fan?

yeah cuz, it goes hard out, wheelspins up to 400kph, and I can wheelie it all the way up the mangamukas, in first.

Pass? Pressurised feed I presume, I know that my 12R is meant to feed the airbox at roughly 13bar pressure at speeds above 200km/h & when I ran it on BP's dyno it ran 143hp @ 255km/h unaided and comparing against Muzzy data it'd slam it right in the middle of their specs @ 160 odd ponies.
Both BP's RC45s ran back to back & they noted the variation between the two, but in reality 1 had a pansy'd docile life and the other had been ridden & used with bit of spirit.

I suspect you have your units wrong there - I could go for 13 kilopascals (approx 0.13 bar) for a ram air feed but even the SR71 Blackbird at Mach 3 couldn't generate 13 bar.
13 kPa should give you maybe another 18 horsepower which sounds like a pretty healthy increase from a ram air scoop to me.
Just slightly off topic but.

A 1.3 % improvement over atmospheric. I really thought that 200+ kph would be good for more boost than that.
Shows how much I know , but then fluid dynamics was never my strongest suit! Shows why superchargers use so much power to drive I guess.
So much for another 18 h.p. then.

Doesn't work on sequential figures, even at idle its about 8mb; at 200 its roughly 13mb but at the 255 its around 24mb and at peak about 30mb+

Takes a smart man to break the law in a spectacular way, and then after serving time, continue to repeat the same behaviour whilst under constant watch by the police.
Prison food must taste nice.

I'd think he was smart if superbikes were disappearing & he was still walking free.
I'd suggest most on here are far smarter than him, as most have a couple or more bikes in their sheds & the police aren't hunting them as a result.
The home cooking is delicious & bum sex is optional in my house.
