I have one of my children in the restricted phase of their car drivers licence, and I'd love to find an iPhone app to log their driving time, driving conditions, driving time, and where they have been.

Anyone have any recommendations?

There's an App that has been around for years, its called talking to your children.

Or just install snitch into their car.

Talking does not log anything of the things I want logged.

Pen and a notebook,

I can tell you don't have children. I also don't want to waste my time summing things up.

Do you think your kids wont be smart enough to turn the gps tracker off?

If you really want to spy on them, install snitch, or get them micro chipped.

Talk and trust, and realising once they reach a certain age you can't control everything they do anymore. They are teenagers and they are gonna do stupid shit. You wont stop them doing it, you'll just find out afterwards, then you are in danger of losing their trust in you, and their respect.
Hows the conversation gonna go down when you say 'I know you've done something you shouldn't have, I've been spying on you'.
Search there rooms when they're out too do you?

You guys [and girl] seem to have completely missed the point. This is to log supervised driving. Of course I know where they are - I'm sitting in the passenger seat.

The driver apps keep a count of the number of supervised hours spent driving on different kinds of roads in different kinds of conditions and different times of the day.

I'm confused - Do you want an app to keep track of what happens when you are in the car? Surely the stopwatch app and the notepad app fulfil these criteria? or have I missed the point entirely?

Have three teens driving at moment and record their odometer before they drive and when they come home with pen and paper, just like truck drivers do, it's called a log book fuckwit, then I'm not busy with my ifuck device, I'm watching them drive and under full supervision when with them,

Jaycar. Get and fit GPS tag (LA9011 was the last one I got) to car. Cheap and easy, logs a complete track which you can view live or retrace on PC.

Owning a Honda and living on the north shore he opbviously wants BBQ bragging rights about how highly trained his perfect 2.4 kids are.
Just use the cycling APP Strava, just about every street in Auckland will be a route segment and your kids will score heaps of King of the Mountain KOM ratings :)

I really fail to see why you want to do this...

You said restricted phase, which is unsupervised.

I find it hard to believe you need an app to tell you what's outside the window, and how long you have sat in the passengers seat.

:eek5:

You have offspring?!?!?
Holy shit!! I thought it was bad enough that my mutant spawn are loose in the world!
That reminds me - must accidentally geld them...
On the other hand... none of them actually know how to interact with other mutants, so they're unlikely to replicate themselves. Plus... they've got my bad parenting to act as an incentive to keep their genomes to themselves...

I gotta ask - what exactly do you hope to do with this logged information exactly? I cant imagine a good reason.

Surely you aren't relying on time spent driving to gauge their skills? - some people drive for 30 years, and still cant figure out how to indicate at a fucking roundabout.

Surely any of the sports tracker apps available for your type of phone (iPhone, Android, Windows) will do the trick. They record the route (map), maximum speed achieved, average speed, and speed for each kilometre segment. They store each session in history, and you can even share it on Facebook for bragging rights...

We have started with a notebook. However, I found found a solution I am happy with. I found NZTA have a web site for keeping track of it.
http://practice.co.nz/
So we have started using this no.

I believe the 120 hours of supervised driving, similar to Australia and Germany, produce better safer drivers.

Surely you aren't relying on time spent driving to gauge their skills? - some people drive for 30 years, and still cant figure out how to indicate at a fucking roundabout.

Training programs, like on practice.co.nz, and the other general 100 to 120 hours programs, suggest certain number of hours of many different types of driving. The programs do this to ensure the learner driver is more well rounded and has had exposure to lots of different types of roads and conditions, rather than relying on the "fresh" teen driver trying to figure it out the first time they encounter it.

Now that sounds just like what I was looking for! Thanks.
