Had my bike for a week now in Christchurch after shipping it from Aus as I just moved from Townsville to Christchurch. Loving the local roads so far

Lots of good roads down south. Especially for a bike like yours.
Get yourself out of bed nice and early one weekend morning this summer and give this a go (https://goo.gl/maps/rXsSRP96igJ2).
Palmerston to Ranfurly is known as the "Pig Route" for whatever reason. It's winding, empty, snowy in the depths of winter. Generally a pretty good ride.

I will mate. I think I would have to get up pretty bloody early to get down there first. I really enjoyed Arthurs Pass on Saturday

Thanks buddy. Best thing about it is the Duolever front end and the ESA. Haven't seen too many in my colour scheme.
I'm always up for a group ride
Here's a couple more pics

I went for a run in ride to Arthurs Pass on my new bike and had a hole picked in the seat by a kea. So thats something to beware of there.
Fuck how slow were you going?

Your bike seems to be parked a lot.

In lots of different places. Approximately 15,000km in just over 6 months. This rate of KM will drop now as places aren't as far away

Nice bike. As has been said there's lotta nice roads down there. Lots up here too but that seems to come as news to South Islanders.
The New Zealand Motorcycle Atlas was/is a good source of roads to ride. Might still be available.
Watch out for Cassina she must be a bloody menace on the road and she's down there somewhere.

I guess it's hard taking a shot of your bike from the side when you're riding it ha.

It's actually called "The Pig Root" ... as in ... "going over the Pig Root" ...
So named as there is a creek called Pig Root creek about half way over. There was once (in the very early days) a Hotel next to where the road crosses the creek (on a lovely tight sweeping corner at the bottom of quite a steep hill). A parking / picnic area exists there to this day. Wild Pigs are common in the area ... and they root up the ground with their tusks ... and the "Pig Rooting" can often be seen. (if you know what to look for)
Palmerston to Alexandra takes about an hour and a half. A detour up/down the Ida valley (through Oturehura and past the Brass Monkey Rally site) is good .... but often well policed by Omakau/Ranfurly Police. But I prefer Highway 85 all the way. Often little or no cell phone coverage though.

Is the one at the bottom of this page: https://www.nz-maps.com/new_zealand_atlases.asp the one you are referring to? Not sure if they actually have them in stock as other places seem to want $2k for a copy.

That's the one. $2K each? I think they were about $35.00?
