Hey all. Got a Suzuki GS1200 with a bent front end. Need new stanchions but they're neither cheap or plentiful. Just wondering what other models from the Suzuki range shared the same forks so I can broaden my search. Does anyone have a parts compatibility guide for forks?

They can be straightened if not badly kinked. Place down here in Christchurch called circle track engineering does an amazing job.
A fraction of the cost of new.
Shop around in your area maybe someone can help

Hmmmm somewhere I have seen a Suzuki front end cross reference document .....
Good thing about Suzukis is it appears easy to swap over fronts. I'd be looking for a Ebay special Haybusa front end or similar :-)

What size are they, that'd be a good start.

If they are Showas like the Bandits then they may well be the same as Honda ones. As far as I have seen its only the lowers that are different and the valves in the carts.
I have a Honda leg here I can measure tomorrow if its a 43mm leg.

i've got a suzuki parts finder program, let him get off his arse and find the part number, he can't even provide the year so once that's sorted it should be easy

Had Boyles check them out and they're fooked. If they managed not to tear them where they've creased, they'll still be compromised. And on a heavy wheelie happy machine, not keen to risk it. Thanks though, a week ago I didn't realise they could be straightened until I had a few mates say so.

43mm thick, haven't pulled them apart yet to get the length.

I'm hearing you on that, I understand that if creased they can't be saved. All the best finding something that'll work.

Maaaaannnn, fine.
Fuck, haven't even checked what year it is.
I'm still doing my own research, I was just fishing for an easy answer. Haven't found a nice pdf manual yet so still finding a part number.

It's a pair apparently. $250 plus whatever customs blackmail charge does sound pretty tempting. Bit nervous of them pitting if I breathe over them though. Does the bandit have the same forks though?

Bugger!.
The wrecker in Ngaruawahia had a complete bike a while back
Falsgrave motorcycles in chch could be worth checking also (03 366 7036)
The bikes were brought basically as a lucky find/grey import by Suzuki and released in batches over the 3yrs, mainly the Saturn Black spec with a couple of special fully blacked out ones, a couple of red/black spec, & 1 or 2 blue/white spec.
Check some of the Japanese sites and you'll be shocked at the prices  joe average black ones at the equivalent of $8000nz & upto $15k for a blue/white spec were some of the last prices I saw.
Places like Alphasports are hopeless for checking parts as they only deal with export bikes not Jap domestic market bikes

I'd put money on it they match the bandit. Front brakes matched the Busa of the same year. Bandit 1200 engine with slightly smaller carbs.

Just search for the part number. Spyda will tell you exactly what other bikes shared the same bit. Seriously, this is fucken ridiculous.

If you can cross reference it to another model check this site for that model.
I bought legs from them a year back and they were a good price and fast. Tarozzi brand.

Looks great but a bit pricey for me right now. I'd have to save up more. I was hoping I could find them cheap on Trademe. Bit too optimistic...
I'm selling some stuff so I might be able to afford new forks soon.

Hi there,
I was just looking through the suspension thread and came across your post and thought I would give a little help,
I was in the same boat as you,
Im currently refreshing my suspension on my CBR1000RR and I started with the front forks, when stripping I realised the chrome tubes were bent so I searched to replace. After searching I found a company online that supplied new Italian Paolo Tarozzi Fork Stanchions http://www.brooksuspension.co.uk/fork-stanchions/paolo-tarozzi.html for £112.49 a leg, they were in stock so I received them within a couple of days.
When they arrived I found them to be good quality which is a bonus!
Just a heads up :msn-wink::niceone:

Ugh, this is still giving me a headache.
I've almost got the money so I'm trying to suss where I'll finally get these things. I can easily find aftermarket staunchions to suit a GSX1400, but they're all saying they're 46mm. The GS is 43. Where did it say they matched?

Seems to be an old website. They're now http://www.rawpowermotorcycles.co.uk/
They don't have anything listed on that site so I've flicked them an e-mail in the hopes they can help.

Unfortunately Bandit forks are too short. Bandits are around 750mm whereas the GS is sitting over 800.

Bit out of budget but that would be nice.
I did have USD front end that I assumed would fit when I bought the bike. But they were too short in length and too short at the steering stem. I didn't realise the GS was so damn tall. Might have to go for a Multistrada front end.
Seems like I'm going to have to wait for a second hand set to appear or go custom.

Have you thought of getting spacers made that screw into were the top caps on the forks go ? Basically just tall alloy tubes/nuts matching the stanchion diameter , was common on early MX bikes to raise there front ends.
AllanB
17th December 2015, 17:36
Bugger the spacers.
How short are the forks? I have seen custom offset upper triple clamps to account for a refit of shorter forks. The existing stem would be retained and pressed into the new tees. Won't be cheap mind ........

PROBLEM SOLVED
Bandit forks do work. Had to take selling the bike to my brother and him to gamble on buying a set. The stanchions are 30mm shorter, but the front wheel doesn't interfere with the headers and it handles nicely at timid speeds. The original clamps, wheel and brakes all fit perfectly.
Once it's road legal it'll get a proper stress test. So far it seems to be a good fit.
A year and a half, only a $500 fix away. Fucking depressing really. But it's fixed and my brother is stoked and I got to ride it today. Could be worse. Got a tuned 1100 motor to chuck in it next.
