View Full Version : I want to borrow a KTM Duke 690

Man it's been ages since I stuck my head in here, and even long not posting (possibly somewhat related to being a two rider, one bike household for way too long!)

I have a cheeky request, does anyone in Auckland have a 2012 onwards KTM Duke 690 that they wouldn't mind letting me swing a leg over, and if it fits, take for a wee ride?
It seems Cyclespot have sold their demo already and I can't bring myself to spend that much money without feeling the handling for myself first.

Also feel free to let me know any thoughts/opinions/experiences on them.

Thanks!

There's a lady on here who has/had one. She seemed to love it. (Hellokitty?)

I know a guy with one who loves his. Never heard anything bad about them. I kind of want one too.

Yeah Hellokitty has one, she's based near Palmerston North these days unfortunately though.

They're the first bike in a while that's turned my head (other than the MV Dragster, and the Ducati Scrambler Full Throttle, neither of which I can afford, so they don't count)

Have you tried Boyd's in Hamilton? They had a couple last time I was there. And its not too far away.

Or maybe Mr Motorcycles in Pukekohe. They also had on when I was in there last time.

Boyds only have the R model as a demo which has a seat height of 865, I'm after the standard model which is a bit shorter at 835.

Craig at Mr Motorcycles is calling KTM for me this morning, although I can't see him getting a different answer to what Cyclespot got when they asked earlier in the week.

Does anyone know somebody who owns one of these?
I'm pretty keen on getting one, but it's rather a big change from the cb1000r I currently ride so I'd love to have a play on one before committing the funds.

Boyds have a track bike one. I borrowed it for an overseas rider to use about this time last year.
Maybe you could organise to take it to a track day?
I recall it being extremely straightforward to use.
Here's a pic of Maria Costello using it at wanganui cemetery circuit.
She had absolutely no issues with it at all.

Well if that's not a recommendation for one, I don't know what is!

Greg Boyd was probably the easiest bike shop owner I've ever dealt with. Couldn't have been more accomodating or stress free.

I think it might have been Greg I spoke to when I called up, seemed like a good dude - actually took the time to find out about what I currently ride, how short is short. That kind of thing means a lot when you're used to being brushed off by all but a handful of shops.

A great bunch of people there. I bought my current bike off them. No regrets at all.

Heh just realised I forgot to pop back here and update. Last weekend I caught the worst bus service known to mankind down to Palmy, hung out with Ms Hellokitty for the morning and took her Duke off her hands. http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/11/27/0847d5b149d36a26661efdd9024df3ed.jpg

Quite the adjustment coming off a big IL4, but it's frickin awesome! I can't stop grinning like an idiot when I'm riding it, it's just so light and flickable!

I saw on her FB that it sold, didn't realise it was you.

Hehe yes we kept it fairly quiet until it was a done deal seeing I was going down without having ridden one before.
