View Full Version : Pulling MP3 files from Windows Media Player

OK, here's the go.

I have some mp3 files in windows media player that I want to put onto the desktop (and thence into a phone). I have succeeded with four so far but I need another four from another album.

Getting these things out of there is a bastard. Even the disc I succeeded with will not let me pull anything more out.

I suspect it might be to do with streaming to other devices, or permissions or some fucking thing like that - the first success came after allowing all media to access the files. But with that same setting still in place, WMP has decided to say fuck off.

System runs W7 64 bit. Dunno version of WMP but might be 12.

Any ideas (apart from throwing the computer into the river...or using a different player) ?

Granted I don't use Windows Media Player, but last I knew, it simply references a library, just like iTunes. ie, unless there is something special, the files are simply sitting in a directory.

Unless you want to go digging through the settings in WMP and find the library pointer, I'd suggest you look under My Music...

Can you see the file names on a list on the side? Right click the one you one and down the bottom of the pop up there should be an open file location button. That's where the file is. You can copy and paste to another location from there. If you can't see a list right click and select show list first.

plug your linux in.

locate *.mp3 | mv /dev/phone

Did that. Didn't work. My music seems only to contain links, not files.

Thanks to others too for advice. Will go file location hunting now.
