Ok. We've all read the many *this bike shop/ that bike shop is shit* threads.
Having been around for a bit, I've seen many, and worked in many shops. I've met thousands of GC's, and many not so good. But this week, I've come across a guy that I must say, ranks as the lowest pile of shit I've ever come across in my entire time in the industry. Yep, even in my time in Australia, never did I meet such a slimy, gutless, thieving wanker. And that's saying something.
Here's how it went. Customer calls up, he's in a spot...bike has cut out. Sweet as. We look at it as soon as we can. It has a flat battery, looks like it may not be charging. It's a GSX750F, alt behind the cyl. So tank, fairings off. Check charge rate...not charging. Alt out. Take it over to the auto sparky (only as they have a machine we can run it up on). Pull it apart to check the brushes first. Look ok. Put it back together to spin it up...hello..it's charging. Check it again...yep...doing as it should.
Charge the guys battery, put it back in the bike and test ride. All is good. Charge customer $150.00 from memory. He pays...everyone is happy.
Few days later, poor guy calls up..battery we fitted has shit it's self, needs to be replaced. I told him if it is indeed fucked (can't remember which bike has had what due to numbers going through every single day etc), we'll certainly replace it. Bike is at another shop. No problem. But seeing as we were the fitting agent, we'll not get warranty on it, unless we're the ones that check it. It's a hassle I know for him to get to to us, but he does so.
My boss checks it out, sure enough, the battery is fucked. Yep, perhaps we should've checked his battery out closer...but was holding charge when it left. We inform the customer, it does indeed need a new battery, but no...sorry, we didn't fit one. That side of it is a miscommunication. So a battery is x$'s.
Customer goes off the handle, calls my boss a dishonest person, tells him he's got a reputation for it, wants him to provide a new battery free of charge. Why would we? Despite my boss assuring him, no battery was actually fitted or ever charged to the customer...the customer is demanding a new battery, free of charge. He's told that's not going to happen and whilst we're sorry he's had the inconvenience of having to bring it back...we've done no wrong and won't be putting a free battery in his bike. We're told he'll never come back, and that's the end of it.
Later in the day, I get a call from this guy. He tells me he's asked around, has talked to quite a few people that know me, or of me, and he's told I'm a straight up guy that'll not have a lend of him. I told him he's badly mistaken if he thinks either of my current bosses are liars, full of shit or useless, as they're the most straight up guys you'll ever come across in the bike industry, and know more about motorcycles than anyone else I've ever had the pleasure to work for.
I said I'd have a word to my boss that did the work (the one he'd called a dishonest liar), to see if we could put something together for he guy...to smooth the waters despite having done noting actually wrong. We decide we'll fit battery for free and do trade price of said battery. Customer tells me he's happy and thanks.
Customer then collects bike Sat, whilst it's parked out the front of the shop...on the street, using his spare key.
He then rings my boss...tells him he's collected his bike. Boss tells him, oh, ok. But I have your spare key etc here. Boss is told..."You can keep it!!!", and is hung up on.
Slimy cunt then refuses to respond to calls.
OK. So it's now ok to purposely steal a battery from a bike shop, because for some warped reason, you feel you're entitled to.
So if you're here on this forum, you gutless thieving twat, I'll leave your name out of this story for a day or two, to give you the chance to do the right thing.
Ring up, pay for the battery.

Yep. 2nd tour of duty there for me. Been in four diff shops in between drinks. Family owned and run business...not big. Hard graft. Only a battery I know. But that's not the point really eh. Was a premeditated act of theft. As low as it gets really. Shat on me too, as I set up the deal for him. I don't take that very well. We obviously have his home address...he's incredibly lucky my bosses are nice people, and wouldn't take matters into their own hands. I've worked in shops where that'd happen though. :msn-wink:

25 years in the vehicle repair industry & very nearly over it.
Broken arse shitheads with no money always looking for some hapless third party to cover their misfortunes.
Its usually either the garage, their father, their ex husband, the guy they bought the vehicle off 2 years ago, w.i.n.z or the bloke that gave them a free jumpstart in the supermarket carpark.
Fuck the loser, he's well beneath you & I.

If you don't have an account with debt collector, there will be a setup fee, then they'll take a cut of the retrieved sum... much better to try and sort yourself first, but yes, lodged on record and can cause issues, but I'd do it for more than just $150.
Surely that bike is new enough for the ECU to need registered keys etc? In which he's just lost a valuable key...
Anyway, I'd lodge with cops. You have address etc, should be an easy job. Property remains yours until purchased...

Yeah but you could put it on their books as stolen for future reference.
Trades people/shops have limited recourse for goods they sell that aren't payed for. You could have kept the bike until he payed for the battery but he got around that basically by stealing it which may open your options.
A more KB solution might be for you to advertise the smartarse's key for sale on Trademe with rego detail and his address. Somebody might be willing to pay enough for that to recover cost of the battery. Then again, they'd prolly want to steal the key.

Even if that is still a thing* (which under the regime introduced by the Protection of Personal and Property Rights Act errrr was it 2003) it doesnt apply to the present situation because the guy removed the bike from the premises without authority. The lein would not, in my view, extend to vigilante action such as stealing it back.... Colour of right and all that malarkey.

I think this guy is a bastard but I can't help thinking this is tantamount to cyber bullying. Maybe this should be in pointless drivel
If someone stole your motorcycle, would it then be cyber bullying to out him/her here?
But anyway....Ken called me this morning. Told me I'd set a South African *friend* onto him! Then he tells me he's called the police, and they told him to come and collect his key.
I said "good luck with that". He turns up, demands his key, and is told "no sweat, that'll be $60.00". He rufuses to pay and threatens to call the police, we say knock yourself out.
I get a call from a very nice police woman asking what the story was/is, I tell her exactly how it all went down. She tells me she'll call him right back.
Ken asks my boss if he'll go 1/2's in the battery...funnily enough, the answer is no.
Ken pays the $60.00 and gets his key back. As he walks off in a huff, he tells us it's the worst customer experience he's ever had.
He was told it was self inflicted.
The end.

I really want to hear that story.
Not much to tell. Customer grabbed a pie out the pie warmer and bolted. Dog car on the forecourt took care of it.
If you ask me doesn't much matter if he was or not. Doing a bolt past a marked ute shows he is not right in the head.

You know his name. Presumably you can get his address. Presumably if said motorbike is not at home neither is he.
I'd give the house key to Nodrog and let him go shit in the dudes bed/fridge/dog/girlfriend for a laugh.
He'd probably pay you.
I would pay noddy to do that as long as photos were taken......

Want to re-assess that comment yet?
Well, not long after that comment things went downhill. :girlfight:
If the mods were to move every thread with the potential to go into free fall to Rant and Rave there would only be one forum on KB.

Again, that sounds like cyber bullying (albeit righteously). To put it another way, how would you describe cyber bullying?
Le sigh,
Its got nothing to do with what business one is in - it is purely about calling the act exactly what it is - regardless of motivation, justification etc.
stick ya bloody dictionary definitions, what we have here is a case of community imposed social justice
So what your saying is when crimewatch or police 10/7, or even the newspaper publish names to seek feedback or to inform the public on people they are interested in, its "cyber" bullying?
and this would be the more mainstream justice.
or put even more simply:
natural consequences.
now can we all just hug and be friends?

None of those or ' fair go ' publish phone numbers or addresses. For me that is where this thread stepped over the line, it went beyond ' name & shame ' & became ' let the mob take revenge ' .

But with the internet, even with just naming someone, you can generally get peoples addresses and numbers....
So are the police wrong too as they name people?

At no point did I list or show either an address or contact numbers, as easily as I could've. Fair go actually tell you who the person is and show their face on tv...do really need a number then eh. And going back to the question I asked you. If some cunt stole your bike...would you be ok outing that cunt? Please answer that question.
Next...our *friend* called the boss of mine he'd abused and called dishonest, and a liar. Tells him he's since heard he's really honest and hard working...but that that Pete needs to be looked out for. He lost his job at Wellington Motorcycles because of it!
The same guy that called me and asked me to help out because he's heard I'm a straight up honest guy.
Work that out.
Told Mark that he's not scared of me, and would knock on my door anytime he felt like it no less. But the Sth African that rang him...is def connected to me.
Duh.

It is that next step , where do you draw the line? . We moan about the decline of standards but this thread leaves me feeling uncomfortable, The guy is an arse , no question , name & shame , yeah OK. Address & phone no, you are inviting mindless bumb fucks to involve themselves in something that is none of their business & not in a good way.
If some bottom feeder wants to get his jollies by digging out the guys personal details & taking retribution over something that has nothing to do with him then so be it. To publish this cluster fucks datails make the poster little better than the miscreant.
There are better ways of getting even, best of all is when they have no idea you have just fucked them over.

Every one has their own choices to make. I've simply seen too many threads beating up on bike shops, and not nearly enough from shops, on dealing with thieves and assholes.

Yep, totally agree, it's a two way street, some of us forget that at times.
Pete, well played and great to see how it panned out in the end.

Just read this thread through. Whatawanker, and after running a retail/trade business for 15 years, there is one thing I agree on in this thread, and that is that Poms are the most awkward, entitled, abusive, retarded, whinging, England was better because...,tight ass customers we had to deal with.
just read this..... FUCKU, and have a nice day, ya bloody colonial...:devil2::laugh:
