Could the Mods please censor any upcoming threads that mention the word Christmas. Apparently it might offend some migrants as they could feel left out, dejected, not wanted etc :sweatdrop:sweatdrop:sweatdrop Festive and 'Happy Holidays' are okay according to whatsaname, you know? Susan Devoid, the crusader for human rights and equality.

Rudman gives his take on it here. http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=11550665

What I'd like to know is, how can you feel excluded from someone else's religious activities, if you were never part of that religion to start with.

Every year we have to hear this bullshit. Not the contents of the article, but the people, like awa355, who feel the need to go on their silly little rampage about it. This editorial is written specifically to bait people like you who are evidently incapable of independent thought. Does anyone really believe this issue is widespread, prevalent or common in any way? No, it's some tiny little insignificant fringe of a fringe, getting upset over nothing. And yet somehow it has to become national news, and we are all supposed to get outraged over a complete non-issue. Move on with your life, stop being such a busy-body.

I'm sure they will let you join - it's not as if they deliberately exclude you - do you want someone to come around and see you about their religion and becoming a member???

Prediction: A December blitzkreig* upon our roading network.

Hmmmm.. this afternoon on the home bike commute got pulled over (as did others in cars) so the LEOs could scrutinize my rego with the Mk I eyeball. Not my WOF, just my rego; the newly-replaced WOF sticker is under the seat after the last thief.

That contributes to safer roads how?*

"Aside from the fact Police does not receive a cent in fines, or that it actually costs us money to issue notices, we'd be delighted to never issue another one, as it would show that everyone was driving safely and responsibly, and the trauma on our roads would reduce overnight."

Yeah, right. Popo doesn't receive a cent in fines, but the General Fund does.

Quote:
"Drivers will see billboards around the country asking them to “check your speed”. The majority of the rural billboard sites have been selected according to their proximity to crashes between 2010 and 2014, where ‘too fast for the conditions’ was a crash contributor. Selection was made using Police and road safety sector data."

Great idea! So now motorists have the distraction of having to keep one eye on the speedo and one eye on the road, and now have another distaction... Billboards in high risk crash areas. Bright... VERY BRIGHT!

Christmas existed in this country long before I was born and I don't think any new people should expect to change things to suit them. I don't know their names for festivals etc and I'm not going to complain about them. Live and let live and all enjoy their own. If some good folk want to call it Christmas the rest should stop bitching about it and get on living their own lives. Susan Devoy is totally out of line on this.

What will she do next? Expect us all to change the number of the year we are in and stop referring to things occurring BC or AD?

why would anyone have thought that being good at playing squash, should translate into being good at being a judicious and sensible arbiter of race relations and human rights? Idiocy on stilts. And she proves that repeatedly every time she opens her mouth.

Hadn't seen that and was simply going off of what I'd noticed over the last month.

“check your speed”
I do that regularly. Not that I adjust the velocity because of some silly little sign, however.

It's not a major issue for the particular specific event under discussion. it's a major event for the future, when we all get used to the fact that we have to be Sharia compliant... regardless of whether we view it as the thin end of the wedge or the slippery slope, it's a fact. Just ask the Belgians, or the current inhabitants of Londonistan...

I would argue there is no need to be "compliant". As an immigrant myself, I have a problem with immigrants moving to a new country then trying to change the laws to suit them. If you want a certain set of laws, or established beliefs changed in your new country, you should have stayed in your old one, otherwise, adapt to the lifestyle of your adopted country.

NZ has plenty of cultural celebrations (Chinese New Year etc). Try going to countries that have strict laws/dress codes (ie, no bikinis) and see how you get on with changing their laws. Seems fair to me...

That's all most "celebrations" are anyway. The commercialism is unbelievable for so many of them that the biggest winners are retailers who see gullible saps ready to part with truck loads of cash in order to play the celebration game.
No I did not buy any fireworks this year as I resent burning up money (not to mention some retard letting them off at 2.30 this morning  I could have happily burned them) , I enjoy making gifts for people , Christmas is all about $$$ , Easter all about getting diabetes from gorging on chocolate bunnies, etc.
I remember a long time ago in a galaxy far far away when our national holidays were a time for families being able to get together without the pressures of work, spend time relaxing etc. Now it seems to be all about how much you spend (and of course the shops do everything they can to persuade you spend spend spend when most of it ends up in the rubbish bin the next day anyway!)

I've oftened wondered exactly when someone will complain about the cultural insensitivity of the Canterbury Super (pick a number) rugby team .... the Crusaders. 'Crusaders' in my opinion, pretty close to meaning of modern day Jidadists (Holy war). Perhaps for balance we should rename the Highlanders 'The Otago Jihadists'. Perhaps also the 'Wellington Mossad' to include our Jewish friends.

I think the only way to stop this crap is to play by the same rules - the so-called Alinsky rules, esp. Rule 12

* RULE 12: Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.” Cut off the support network and isolate the target from sympathy. Go after people and not institutions; people hurt faster than institutions.

This is cruel, especially the way they do it - but very effective which is why they do it. Direct, personalized criticism and ridicule works. This is, after all, the left's most successful tactic.
