Going to throw one in the kit this summer.
Realistically for teh size you can carry on a bike (1L is probably all I can squeeze on) they do sweet fark all, but better than nothing and they should earn some brownie points.

Where do you guys buy yours and what are the best deals to be had?

Did you decide to take up on racing?

Always racing mate!
Racing to the pub, racing to the fridge, racing to the loo. Life in the fast lane around here.

Nah there have been a few good sized marshmallow roasting opportunities pop up locally and since they have done such a good job a lot of forestry access is either tightly restricted or outright closed, so throwing an extinguisher in plain sight on the bike can't hurt.

bunnings do 1kgs for 30 odd buck. You want dry powder, which is most common anyway.

Makes a fucken mess but stops inferno.

Knowing how to use it effectively is 80% of it's worth.

A 1kg should all but put out a well involved bike.

Oitherwise the likes of chubb, and forestry supplys (timbersaws levin?) the forestry guys have ones that fit on yer belt that must be about 300g. Similar size to a can of deoderant. You'd have to be fucken handy with one and quick to it though to be much use.

Otherwise theres a stack of old halon (yellow) ones that every one seems to want to get rid of

Don't think a 1211 or 1301 would be such a problem to the ozone....Just won't get it re-filled, so it becomes rubbish.
Hey, whatever you put it out with ain't the issue. It is the damage caused that IS...:)
You got some BCF or BTM, throw 'em my way....

Yeah, pretty frikkin relevent down your way at present! What plonker started that fire or was an act of God or it baked beans for breakfast on the propane cooker? :)
Man, such a waste of resources and I recall someone mentioned just the other day about the fire risk heading up to Mt Patriach...

I think they start on their own - spontaneous combustion if the conditions are present.

No...really? I would accept wet hay, straw, coal. trees? No. For spontaneous combustion to occur there has to be a breakdown of the organic matter to create the heat such as your compost bin.
I suppose if there is enough of the trees, limbs on the ground that are compressed and release heat, maybe but highly unlikely? Not know to, plenty of air, and the housekeeping is there for that reason alone surely?

If you get one of those cheap as aerosol can type fire extinguishers, don't tie the bugger onto your handle bars
Got one for trail rides and it cabled tied there sweet az
Should not have left it on there
Riding the bike through to NP one day and "NEK MINNIT" I had some weird shit going on
A small hole had been rubbed thru the can and it was in the process of emptying itself all over every thing down wind of itself :dodge:
What is downwind from the handlebars :weird:

Key word ....Cheap..
Is it fit for purpose and do we ever, ever read instructions?
9 seconds is all you have from the little aerosol of Potassium carbonate or similar ....KCO3
I have one and it is a last resort...

Fire blankets, are small in package size. Will probably be more versatile for bikers, and the idiot using it doesn't need to understand wind direction.

And being in the bottom of the panniers doesn't help either.
I have always been impressed with Johnc's extinguisher strapped to side of his 690. To me it gives the impression of a responsible biker whether or not it is effective.

Fire blanket is an interesting one. Will look into it.

Cheap is still better than nothing. No matter what you have when it comes time to use it I guarantee you'll be wishing you had been lugging around a 4kg+ extinguisher for that one moment in time

It does happen, but you're right in thinking it is pretty rare. Some trees, like gums, are more susceptible to it.

I feel sorry for the land owners/managers surrounding the forestry.
If it's that bad the forestry company shouldn't be in there logging. Seems to be terrible business sense. Wait a few decades, burn it all down and get a lesser amount from insurance.

This is a big thing in cars too. You're better with a 1kg/s under the front seats than a 2-3kg in the boot when it comes to the difference in fire size by the time you get anything out of hands reach to the party. Can't be prepared for everything all the time though I guess.

I'll own it. I have enough trouble calculating what direction is safe to piss in half the time. Think you're safe and then bam, gusts roll in

If my cheap 9 second canister can stop the fire before it reaches the size where an expensive helicopter and monsoon bucket is required That's what I will use it for. It is a first resort. Legging it fast is my last resort :woohoo:
