there'll be half a dozen or so Steve Roberts built bikes at the art gallery on taupo quay from tuesday till 5th jan, within walking distance of the cemetery circuit and open boxing day.
free entry so get along and have a gander folks, race bikes as well as a Roberts built chopper and scrambles bike from the sixties.

no idea really, it was tough importing bikes in those days, there were a lot of restrictions on trade so Steve made himself a bike, and someone else liked it and asked for one and it just snowballed.
the differnce is Rickman made 17000 metisse's Roberts made less than twenty Spartans.

nah, the whole show was confirmed about six weeks ago, andy's not in the country till after boxing day so hasn't been near the bike since the show was confirmed, i do have the rear end in my shed to sort some issues with, so it's a step closer.

there were a couple of his bikes at Ray Witham funeral,i didnt look at them but the plastic fantastic and the aluminium monoquoque i think

There will also be a bike display at the Wanganui Fire Station for their 150th anniversary

Guy down here turned up with what he thought was a small Metisse chassis and wanted me to use it as the basis for a build.
I knew what it was, a guy in ChCh built around six of them, used copied Rickman fiberglass. The small Honda single in it tended to give it away a bit....
I think he's still got it tucked away in a shed. A few more years and it may have value.
