I've bought a bike in Auckland and want to get it to the Wairarapa. It is in one piece but needs to be transported. Obviously I'm looking for the cheapest and safest way to do this. I've had a look at some removal companies as well as using a Van Relocation option. The removal companies (I have no experience of), charges vary from $300+ and the relocation option has not resulted in anything for me.

I see there are lots of specialised motorcycle removal companies - anyone recommend one please?

Any other ideas?

Thanks

Book a flight on JetStar return (no luggage), pickup the Bike in AKL, Stuff it down your trousers, and fly it back home.

Unless it's a wreck use a specialised motor bike mover
I found http://www.biketranz.co.nz very good

I've used Bike Tranz four times with no issues - quick, careful, specialist and reasonable price.

Bike Tranz and Motorcycle Movers (there are two, reviews vary so don't confuse the two) would be the common specialist movers.

Otherwise, fly n ride?

Used Bike Trans several times, as above great service.
From memory last couple of bikes from Welly area were about $300 ish.

I know this conflicts with your preconceptions, but my '01 H-D FXDXT, bought early '03 with 41 kms on the clock, is now on 144,000k - and yeah, about 80 km of that on a trailer to get a NZ VIN when I brought her back home. Would have had higher k's but, got five other bikes to ride...

Been coast to coast including Death Valley, Las Vegas, V, Route 66, Sturgis, New York City, the Dixie Highway, Key West and back again via FL, TX, NM, AZ, and CA in the US on an '04 Vrod, plus assorted detours; try it sometime, and on a Harley. You're never far away from a dealer. (And all I needed a dealer for on that trip was a new front tyre (in Helena, ND) and a replacement highway peg (in Tempe, AZ).
