I have a 2004 Skywave 400. Great scooter ... but today the FI light came on. It had been stood awhile at a friend's house and my friend said he jump started it. Wondering if that may have caused some issue - no doubt.
Symptoms - runs badly. Coughs a bit. The speedo dash lights won't light up and if I change from low to high beam I get more power. If I put an indicator on the bike engine coughs while going along. Also - the speedo needle fluctuates wildly, as does the tacho.
Petrol might be a bit old too ... shall syphon it out and change it. Friend topped it up from an old container. At least one year old.
Could it be a battery issue - or is the Computer FI stuffed?
Am currently charging the battery. And will clean up a few connections, check the fuses etc. Anyone had similar issues?
Any ideas appreciated.

Sounds electrical to me. If it was fuel then that's not likely to resolve when the lights are on! I'd not panic yet, give the battery a good charge, ideally on a decent charger that can recondition the current battery. If that doesn't help then I guess a new battery is worth a try. Would be surprised based on the symptoms that you've done any damage to the electrics, sounds more like the voltage dropping too low causing some freakiness.

Just changed the petrol. Now charging the battery, and a spare. Will see what happens later ...
Fuses seem good. Will spray all electrical connection I can reach with WD40.

MrsB's Golf had an assortment of dash lights appear a few weeks back. All but one were cured with a new battery. The other was a bla bla bla emission thingy that needed replacing. Fuel economy has gone from very good to extremely good now, particularly considering she likes the loud pedal ....

had an ABS light go on the other day, turns out the brake lights were buggered. At least those are sorta related circuits.

Well, cleaned all the connectors I could find, and the fuses, and sparkplug cover. WD40 rules OK. Battery is charging. Started with car battery - no issues. Seems to run fine at present. Will put original battery back in the morning and run it. If no good then a new battery is in order.

New battery sorted it. Rode 85km then it hiccuped and the FI light came on again but otherwise ran normal.
Stopped and restarted and the FI light is off. Maybe this is the new normal .... ????
