Looks like the badge from a marksman's lanyard. Did it have a white cord with it?

If you polish it up is it brass? If so it's a hat badge.

If you want to part with it mate am happy to pay,my mothers is German and have long been collecting this n that along the way,she has passed on some incredible stuff that was given to her...both 1st ww and second. On that note if anyone reading has any interest in HMS Hood we have a photo album full of nothing else but pictures taken formally and at sea on operations, probably staged but are what they are..i have suggested to the old girl that she contact someone in England into such things so they go somewhere to be preserved.

Have you tried the Naval museum at Devonport? they might be interested.

...there is always some dumbfuck somewhere that will make it worth more than you ever thought it was and pay the price...it's a bit like a classic bike , we all know what they are worth but somebody offshore will pay a huge amount over it's real value...that sets the price (value)...

No i havent mate, the old girl still has it and as i said i suggested she make an effort to get it somewhere to be preserved for all to see in the future. From memory theres about 70 photos taken onboard both formal and not...considering its fate they really are photos that need to be sent somewhere that they will be respected.

Yep - a Spectacular Magazine detonation by Plunging fire - such a shame, and only 3 survivors.

Due for a re-fit to at the time, theres somewhere on the web a pic of the explosion (apparently),how the fuck 3 survived is beyond me if its for real.
