FFS, he wasn't Jesus H. Christ, almighty..
As a racer, who'd likely already had one bad one too many, he knowingly took the risk.. & crashed again big time..
That's tough.. & he may or may not recover, this time ( & it aint up to us..) - too.. but no need to get all faux sooky about it, eh..
As riders, we bloody well know - the same fate - could well await any of us, pretty each & every time we head out..

Just to clear up weather I give a shit as per an earlier post by the village idiot, I had a good catch up with Shaun less than an hour before his mishap, we talked the usual old shit, wished each other a good weekend, shook hands & went our ways.
I was also a party to the incident & his status, which to be frank is rather grim at this stage.
If I thought wishing him well on a public forum would help then I would.

It would be fair to say I have crossed swords with Shaun on more than one occasion. But no one deserves what has happened to him a second time even though he would have been fully aware of the risks involved in the sport . And although it is only a small gesture I can only wish him well and hope he pulls through this one. Thinking of his wife and family and close friends at this time.

No words can describe how devastating this is for Shaun and his family.
To be as good as he is at motorcycle racing pushing the limits is routine and crashing is part of the gig but to have this happen so soon into his comeback is seriously tragic.
He definitely proved a lot of people wrong, myself included, and we've had to eat humble pie and acknowledge not only his talent but his dedication and determination.
Let's hope those same characteristics are enough to help pull him through this tragedy and back to health.
All the best bro.

From Fiona: He is comfortable but pretty much in same condition. On life support, sedated, pain relief, etc. I'm sorry I can't say much more because I don't know much more myself. He is getting angry with the incubation tube. He moves around a lot. He has trouble controlling his body temp so they put a cooling blanket on him. I will try to put more on as he improves and I believe he will because I have seen him do it once before and I know his determination. If I was half the person he is I would be a wonderful being. Thanks for all good wishes and words of support.

I visited the hospital tonight and spent some time with Shauns Wife and Sister, a few tears but more laughs than tears which was good. he has one broken bone, his tailbone so i'm lookinh forward to calling him brokenarse when he comes through, Jacob Stroud also visited and suggested he gets a new nickname, the cat cuase he has nine lives. He's in good hands and his Wife; Fiona is a nurse and is very aware of his condition.
Peter Jones, the late Cam Jones father sat with Shaun pretty well between him arriving at the hospital until Fiona and Shauns daughter Petra arrive, they were very appreciative of this.
I am working with the family on behalf of the Cam Jones trust for seriously injured road racers providing financial assistance.
As Sidecar Bob posted, any assistance is greatfully appreciated, PM for details and I will outline the options for you to decide how to support Shaun and family while he is on the mend.

Yes, I just spoke to Fiona (Shaun's better half), no change with Shaun presently, he's got his family at his side and still in ICU fighting :(
I have provided Fiona with my contact details and offered her any support that she or Shaun may require (I Might need some assistance tho KBers, our new baby is due this sat, so I may struggle with availability- anyone local I can pass the batten too if required?)
A message from Fiona to you all...
She is amazed and so very thankful for all the messages of support and love they have received from all over NZ and the world...and especially from the KB community.
Fiona has spoken of Shaun's love of this site and its members...(even the ones that argue with him and wind him up:laugh:), Shaun has always spoken highly of the KB community and is constantly on the site contributing, having fun and sharing his love of two wheels with us all...and Fiona would like to pass on a message of thanks to you all for being there for them in this difficult time, Just knowing so many people are thinking of Shaun and wishing him a speedy recovery is so reassuring and comforting, its like having an extended family looking out for them.
I have of course assured Fiona that the KB community stands by its members and there family's in such times, and assured her that should they require anything at all, we will be there for them and will help where ever possible...and we are indeed all thinking of them and praying for Shauns speedy recovery.

Shaun Went to Eurobike this year and arranged a couple of Regina Chains as awards at the first couple of rounds, and left it to the commentators to select the people.
I called him up at prizegiving and introduced him, although he needed no intro as everyone knew him. I commented on how ugly he was, and that was coming from me! and asked the crowd if anyone would dare put anything in their fridge that looked like that.... we had a laugh afterwards and he was in such good spirits with his riding and life at the time. He's the grittiest character I know and his comeback path had given him focus and something to aim for and had paid off big time, and he wasn't scared to be so thankful to all that had put faith in him, and acknowledge his feeling of having accomplishment and won over the hearts of a few people who'd knocked him over time, including among others; Sidecar Bob on here.
We are all feeling hurt Shaun and wish you and those around you well mate.
details for the Cam Jones trust are attached to help with continued support, or if you'd like to donate directly to the family please don't hesitate to PM for either direction.

2 hrs ·
Shaun has had no sedation on all day so they can try to start assessing him. He's been quite agitated however awake and mouthing stuff. One is "out of here". He tried to worm his way down the bed and has pulled naso tube and arterial line out. I told him not to do it again, he rolled his eyes. I said the more I say that the more determined you are. He mouthed yep, soo they have popped some sedation back on. ( wish i could take some of that home) Still at least he's starting path back.

Yesterday (day 12) the nurses hoisted Shaun into a chair for half an hour. Sedation had to be put back on the night before as he gets too agitated. They have changed pain relief as they not sure if this is adding to it. He didn't recognise me and Petra but it was an amazing experience to see him in a chair. It's a beautiful day here this morning so hope it brings lots of positives.

Latest from Fiona ex FB
So day 13. Shaun has stood and taken a few steps. At first not knowing how to formulate how to move legs. Getting really frustrated. I do have to laugh at some of the inappropriate things he mouths and the faces he pulls. Sometimes he's here, next lights on no one home. Normal head injury stuff. He has come a very long way from the night I was told we'll give him 72 hours then turn off life support. If he survives that he will probably be a veg. (No jokes he already is wink emoticon or what kind of veg ). I have had amazing support and great words of encouragement so cheers for that.

Day 16 Shaun has really made remarkable progress to how he was 15 days ago but that is his fighting spirit. He has walked around ICU with gutter frame and two physio ladies helping. He still has a trachy but breaths by himself with humidified oxygen attached to it. He sometimes is with me mentally and those are the hopes I hang onto. Funny I seem to be the one drug free thing that calms him (makes a change). He is in ward 28 CHCH Neuro ward. Petra and myself have to go home today so it is kind of a gut wrenching day for us. When I fly back on Friday for weekend, made possible by people's generosity, I hope to get a thumbs up pic. Again thanks everyone for support we all have battles so I very much appreciate it.

i talked to Fiona earlier this week and asked about visitors as shaun i snow out of intensive care and in the ward quoted above.
she siad that would be good but you need to take shaun as he is. my own comment is that shaun has had a traumatic head injury it's likely that he will not recognise you, but it will still be an important part of his healing if anyone was to go.

What often happens is people go piling in en masse to visit people in situations like this, when what the person actually needs is rest & recovery.
If you wouldn't usually rock up to his house for an impromptu visit, then that probably tells you all you need to know.
Not trying to discourage visitors, just give it a bit of thought.

not necessarily true, yrs ago a mate had a bad accident with serious head injuries, i was asked to go visit to try and get his brain working again (we grew up together) so i took ten days off work and went in every day and just played games and talked to him about shit we had done, he still remembers me being there through that time but does not remember any one else or even his parents who visited every day as well. sometimes its just the connection.

he is in a nuerological ward so the staff there will know what is good for him and what is harmful. bu thanks bob for pointing that out. remember the freak show when Kaitepie was in hospital on KB, people were talking about making a roster from early morning till late at night of kb members! not even thinking about the family of healing time.

Is the family ok for accommodation Jelly? I live near the city if they end up stuck for a spot to sleep (nearly said crash but that's rather poor taste).

He wrote me a message on the white board..... Txt to Fee from Shaun Harris. Blew me away. He still is here one minute and then not but what amazing determination that man has..... 21days post a serious brain injury. Shaun you rock. If you visit, take him as you see him. Thanks Cam fund, My boss Robyn Sanders, Dom his in and outlaws, Dianna. Karen and Andrew Stroud(you keep my faith alive) and my beautiful children and parents. Kind of feel like that was a grammy speech. I have so many more to thank and I will. I'm so greatful.

Morning again Avon and CHCH hosp. Off to pace another day with the crazy man. ( I mean that with a lot of affection) Pacing is what Shaun Harris does well, if you can picture him at the track. smile emoticon He has a lot of his procedural memory back, the rest in time I pray. He still has his personality and I thank God for that. No one like Shaun.

Visitors can only be a good thing for Shaun, i'm sure if it's not suitable the staff will tell you so, he's in this for the long term and with family so far away they are very grateful of the support of the motorcycle community of their visits. You might even spark up a bit of his memory that is still buried Drew....

Got to Welcome Shaun Harris to Wellington today, he is in the ABI facility at Kenepuru Hospital and the staff were spending time with him learning about his needs etc but were also keen to know about him. They have advertised visiting hours 10-1 &4-8, Fiona Kelsen will be talking to the staff to see when suitable times are too, so keep an eye for her update when she is able to speak to them etc. One thing the staff mentioned to me was to please make the visits short. I'm sure Shaun recognised me and shook my hand when I offered and tried to chat so I encouraged him to write things down, he went into his own world once, then back very quickly, but sometimes he may not be aware of someone or not. I told the staff that he used to race the Britten Motorcycle Company and he doodled the Britten logo while I talked. I reminded him that he gave me the fingers in his first ever race (he'd broken down and we were still going) his eyes sparkled, i've no idea whether it sunk in but I got a reaction. I mentioned Seth Devereux and he gave me that look, you know like the one we all have when we've stuck our finger through our toilet paper..., we know he likes ya Seth.
I talked Motorcycles, that's Shaun so don't be short of a tale or two of a good race, either his or yours. I'm sure any visit will not go amiss, and i'm also sure we don't all have to leap up this week and tick that one off, he'll be there for a while so continued support will be the thing people.

I commentate at the Cemetery Circuit, and the Nationals. I was worried about Shauns comeback and that he didn't break himself in the process and when he got forth at wanganui told the world he had his Mojo back. we then went south and he was winning races. there are two commentators down south, we take turns each in post race interveiws, i was hoping that I got superlite cause Shaun was over the moon with what he'd done.
I think a lot of people had written him off, but gained new respect for him when he climbed back to the top of that ladder.
personally i've always enjoyed the pricks company, i was in his first race at hamilton, he broke down, I gave him the thumbs up when passing them parked up, he gave me the fingers so i made a point of catching up afterwards. He can be a tosser, i can't remember the last riders breifing he was at that he didn't ask something but it takes all types of people to make the world work and we need unpredictable gingas to be part of it.

I dunno if this directed at me, but I welcome you to point out where my personal view has changed in case it is. My signature got changed when it wasn't him reading that I wanted to fuck off. Pretty confident that bad taste, and a dislike of a person has a very distinct difference.
Shaun is not a good person, in my opinion. I base that mostly on what people I respect and trust have told me from personal dealings. Also on conversations I've had with him, about many things but most of those were the same things about the above.
That doesn't mean that he isn't a huge talent, and the racer in me has to respect that. I don't wish him ill health, or lasting detriment.
Lord fucken help us when he gets back on here though.

has anyone got an update on Shaun's progress?
I have been catching up with Shaun Harris regularly since he was relocated to the ABI unit in Porirua and can say that I've seen a number of improvements in the last few visits. He's now talking, something I think some of us secretly feared cause of his "colourful" language but it’s all good we’ve had is a good chat several times. When he had his crash the biggest worry that came back to the pits was that one of his pupils (eye thingamys) was much larger than the other, he was out to it then; but that was the clearest sign of a major brain injury. His pupils (eye thingamys for you lot with a short attention span) are now relatively the same size, I say relatively, as i've seen a huge change but not going to say they are the same folks, i’m not qualified to make that call. Last Week he had his Tracheostomy removed, that's the thingamy he had in his neck for breathing through, and coughing out surplus furballs etc that his throat couldn't do, cause his swede (head, noggin, dome, brain etc) wasn't sending the signals. The Swede is now got that part of him to work now so that means he'll be able to get back into Karaoke, and be able to eat food, instead of about seven "meals" a day he was getting through a syringe into his stomach. Dunno what they tasted like but to me it looked like Lion Brown with soggy weetbix through a blender..... Some days he know who I am, some days he doesn’t. It’s still tough to go and see a mate like this, but tougher not to and let him tick over the days with maybe no-one dropping in and I always look forward to that moment when we can have a normal conversation (yip as normal as you’d expect between Spyda and Shaun) about just a small thing. Eventually these convos will grow, he’s on his way back but still got a long way to go. Don’t forget folks, he’s there for a visit, don’t stay long, if you can spark a memory that’s great, if you can’t it’s still great that you have taken the time and made the effort. The only thing to watch is if you have soemthing niggling you, cough cold etc, best stay away as it is a hospital enviroment and they don’t need more bugs.

Thanks for the updates Spyda. Huge respect to you for taking the time to visit Shaun, help him and write the updates. Very few of us would, citing the excuse of our busy ( read selfish) lives etc.
One of my own deepest regrets is a friend who a sustained a head injury after an innocuous 'off' while we riding together many years ago (cough .. like 40 !!) ... like Shaun, he was in the brain damage unit for a long time.
I was very young and obsessed with my own life and after a while it was easier to not go anymore .... I have lived with that shame since.
What you are doing is not easy or pleasant.
Respect.

just visited shaun an hour ago (monday) and over the weekend they have started getting him to drink again, half a cup of coffee is enough, but that's more than he's had since january. I visit him regularly and it's the small physical things i see his brain unlocking the path to let him do it again that are an inspiration. over time we all hope that those little unlocks will move to his memory and let him recognise people he knows, and learn people he doesn't . Today he denied ever having won a TT, he did say he'd ridden there on the Britten though. several months ago i told him two out of his three wins and stalled on the third one, he knew it then.

i see shaun regularly, it's short term memory, he doesn't have any, physically he's good, he's started eating again, the brain has reinstalled the swallowing action, this has made a big step in his wellbeing as he can now enjoy food instead of it being dripped into him.
without the short term memory he won't be able to do normal things, or he'll do them ten times cause he's forgotten what he's just done.
