If you're after a bike to learn on, try a Honda CRF80. No new ones any more, I think they have a 125 to fill the gap between the new-ish CRF110 (was a CRF/XR70) and the CRF150, which is a big, heavy lump.

80 has a clutch, but a PITA 16" front wheel. Precisely 2 companies make a tyre to fit it. Funny, but the new 125 has a 17"...

A whole different beast to a KTM rocketship, but lower cost and nearly indestructible. 4-stroke, easy to ride, etc.

KX65's are pretty aggresive, and not that great for a first timer,

with a clutch if they are smaller you have JR80 and the above mentioned CRF80, or you can get the later model KLX110L which has a clutch

if they are a bit taller then maybe a CRF100 or the new 125, DRZ125, TTR125, KLX125 or KLX140 small wheels,

She is quite short, I will look in to jr80 and crf80, what would you expect to pay for a decent crf?

kids bikes hold there value well, i would think 1800-2000 for decent one if you can find one, JR's are shorter, and can be had from $1000 bucks, they are $2595 brand new,
