I'm currently looking at a sv400 with 109k. Went to view today and I'm astounded how tidy it is considering kms. All the usual items look good, or new. Is there anything in particular I should be looking for at this mileage and for this model? I understand the 650 is just a bored and stroked 400, so the same should apply.

Seller currently wants 3500 which seems like a lot considering it's going to be hard to sell when I graduate to a bigger bike.

I like it cos it's tidy, it's local and there's fuck all else around atm.

Thoughts?

Sounds like you are keen on it. Other than the price.

Negotiate on the price if you're keen on the bike, as it's a rather big ask.

Keen because I have the itch bad, and there not much in the lams sphere around at the mo. Particularly where I live, and or under 4.5k

Do what feels right. :niceone:

Trust yourself. If you really like it, then take the money out of the equation, they are still making that shit.:Punk::Punk:

I looked at a couple of these here in the Philippines. Apparently they were built for the Japanese domestic market and are identical to the 650 except for the stroke, (I think?) One of the ones funnily enough belonged to a Kiwi and he took it home with him on his return. He seemed to be pretty happy with it. Reasonably common here.

I could be wrong here but I thought the 650 was the original...

Yes, you could be, but I'm surmising that they came out about the same time; the 650 for export and the 400 for the domestic market.

I've just checked my sources. According to them the 400 was introduced in 1998 and the 650 in 1999. However I don't know just how accurate that is, 'cos they give identical bore and stroke measurements for both. (81X62.6.)

Yeah. 400 was launched in the Japan domestic market before the 650 was developed. 650 was based on the 400.
