Hey guys,

Recently I have been doing a lot of long distance riding and have heard a few times here and there that if you change the size of the sprocket (s) you can achieve either more accelleration-lower top speed or higher top speed less accelleration. Makes sense.

What I want is a sprocket that will achieve lower RPMs at 100km/h. How easy is this to do? Will it effect the speedometer reading? I dont mind losing out on a bit of power/accelleration. Most of all, where do I get these and what is reccomended?

Thanks in advance.

Edit: The bike is the 2001 Yamaha YZFR6.

If you only want to do 100kph buy a CT110
Those little fuckers go forever.
However there are a multitude of sites on gearing Google is your friend

Yes it will affect your speedo. Personally I couldn't be bothered doing the math's in my head as to what is my real speed now that the sprockets have been changed (as I ride) one slight lapse now and again may result in tickets. And it's just another thing to concentrate on.

Gearing commander is your key. Google it.

As for turning a 600cc crotch rocket into a touring bike? Forget it. Cheaper to change bikes.

Raising the gearing on an R6 will make it unresponsive and ghastly. Buy some earplugs, you should really be wearing them to block wind noise but will make the ride smoother.

That'll cut the wind noise and if he leaves the standard pipes on he won't need earplugs. Perfect.

gearingcommander.com

sprockets will be available from your local dealer, or, try sites like motomummy.com for new chain and sprocket sets for reasonable prices - as they are best changed as a set.

Corey at motomummy is a real helpful dud, tell him what you want and he will sort you out. superbikeunlimited is also pretty good

Less tyre wear as well...
