Local police are looking for this, (maybe). Shouldn't be too hard to track down.

What make is it?

Eh, you're relying on the recollection of a young girl, so I wouldn't rely on it too much. Could have easily been something like a PT Cruiser.

Mk3 Zephyr. This isn't 1985, not everyone that's dodgy drives a Mk3 Zephyr. Looks like something 30's and English, what are they thinking out doing crime, it could never outrun the cops, even with them driving holdens

clues are suicide doors, thick swage line down body and window layout.

Google image search identifies it as a 1936 Hillman Minx.

As you say, not the ideal choice for doing a runner. I really think the school girl was way off the mark with her description. I had thought it could be a pre war Vauxhall.

"Clues are suicide doors, thick swage line down body and window layout."

Most, if not all British cars of that era had suicide doors. There was very little difference between Austin, Morris, Vauxhall, Ford, Hillman, Humber; mainly just grille shape and in the case of Vauxhall, the fluted bonnet.

Most definitely a Hillman Minx, circa '36-'47. There was very little difference between immediate prewar and immediate postwar cars in Britain due to the shortage of steel for building body presses etc.

My old dad had both a '37 and a '47 Austin 12, and as I recall, the grille was basically the only defining difference. The later body may have been a little more rounded, but barely noticeable.

...my bro had a Vauxhall 12...a '37 I think...6 cylinders and as close to being in a Keystone Kops movie as you could get...the pipe was a little rusted out just before the muffler...it was as noisy as an aeroplane and seemed to go quite fast but was terrifyingly rattly when it did...cool car I thought, back then...

Sounds like one I had in Petone when I was an apprentice in the late 1950's - 1927 ex General motors staff car apparently very plush leather etc! - Big headlights!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vauxhall_20-60 We called it the "Hulkin" - very intimidating on the road back in the day and loud as!!

Left it on my brother's lawn when I went overseas and he sold it for ten pounds ($20.00?) - would sure like to still own it now $$$$$
