To be fair, if you hit one that's been properly installed you've already ignored some very obvious signage. There's a case for saying that you get what you deserve.
Also, I'd rather have a rider taken out by one of these than let them plough through a set of road works, possibly taking out several workers in the process.

Incorrect actions have consequences, let's have the perpetrator carry the consequence rather than an innocent road user/worker. This net works by my way of thinking.
Bit like in Europe there's quite a few "sharks teeth" type of devices to slash tyres of cars attempting to enter motorway at an off ramp. You'd generally only make that error once...:rolleyes:
