Hi all.

I'm just heading off overseas for a couple of months, but when I get back the missus will let me out to play.

Many years ago I had a 50cc Victa stepthrough (sort of Vespa clone, went like the clappers. No motor mower jokes please.) But for the last 20 years - nada. Petrol prices being high, a motorbike is back on the cards.

I'm looking for a cruiser-style bike up to 400cc. I'll do 30km a day, mostly on open road, so it will need a little oomph and decent fuel economy. I'm going off the gn250 and would prefer something a bit physically larger - maybe an older eliminator, royal enfield, or marauder? Something for the not-too mechanically minded, and preferrably lower kms (less than 40,000?). I'm in Wellington, but don't mind having a bike freighted. 5'10", 90kgs.

And here's the impossible bit - around $2k.

So if you're thinking of upgrading at the end of November, save some time and hassle and sell it to me!

If you have any suggestions - please reply to the thread or email me, and I'll look in from time to time while I'm travelling.

Here's hoping!

There are only two that fit your requirements:

Kawasaki El400
Suzuki Intruder 400

You'll need to spend more or get lucky.

Yamaha VIRAGO 250
Yamaha VIRAGO 400
Yamaha VIRAGO 535

All cruisers. The 250 is a great commuter... and also good for longer trips.
9.5 litre tank...

See Dallas (SARGE) at Colemans as there is a older Virago 250 in stock.

There is one over on the North Shore...

Other cruisers are The Honda REBEL 250.
