I think my dad has managed to borrow a classic sidecar for this day. So me and him to have a go as a team. I've swung on a track chair twice and he's only ever ridden a speedway chair.... we'll figure it out. We'll chuck on some L plates

COOL! Who's your dad and what is the chair he is borrowing?
just to clear things up so there is no confusion -
We're all for people having fun, but the have go day is run by the NZSRA for sidecar riders to take members of the public out for fun, to promote our sport to the public, and to give them a taste of what's its like. Also it raises a little bit of money which probably wont even cover the cost of the sausages for the BBQ afterwards.
In the interest of public safety, the day cannot be a free track day for teams (be they new or experienced) to turn up and practice.
There is time available at the end of the day for testing, which is free for NZSRA members and $20 for non members. Which anyone is more than welcome to use for practice/testing.
you can PM me for more details.

It was a father and son on there the boy would have been 5 years old and he was great as the chair lifted around the left hand corners he would lean out to counter balance [emoji106] when we got back in I told his day he has a natural [emoji1]

Well, that was interesting. Two days on and I'm still sore in the strangest places - how does that work?
I don't believe that I have had that much fun packed into 3 minutes since I was seventeen. I don't know how the regulars manage to hang on for 6+ laps but I suppose that like many things, more skill makes for less effort required.
Thanks to Drew/Alan, Tracy/Tina and Roger. Who won the cash for the most tickets collected? I'm guessing Tracy??
Surprised at the lateral G forces. Felt like we were getting towards 2 G at the apex of the quick corners but I thought that even with good tyres, that was impossible without aerodynamic assistance. Sort me out here somebody.
Drew, it seemed to me that Tracy was pulling about twice the lateral G's that you were, before the chair came up, but not so controlled or predictable. I didn't think that the geometry of the 2 machines was that different. What am I missing here?
Probably down to lack of swinging skills, eh?
Mrs Bass and I had a total ball - on a high for the rest of the day. Back next year for sure and likely with a few mates.

Tracey gave the most rides personally, but was beaten by people that had one bike & two riders, or two bikes. She is also sore in funny places today.

I bought my wife this new perfume called chloroform, but she doesn't like it.
She says it makes her sleepy and her arse sore.

She took me for a few hot laps, I came in & was flipping out about what a buzz it was & that I didn't know how anyone could hold on for more than three laps. I think a few have a goers thought I was genuinely buzzing out.

She took me for a few hot laps,
It was interesting going out on it, felt like I had no room compared to the F1 and I was so used to the inside handle on the F1 I forgot about the one out on the guard
Fucking glad she took it easy on me to, last time I swung on a sidecar was Wangas with Gordie about 4 years ago, I was fucked in three easy laps
She did say she noticed the extra weight with me on which I guess was her subtle way of calling me fat

if anybody would like to join the NZSRA (you don't have to own or compete on a sidecar, just have an interest) they can contact me on here.
there are also T shirts available for purchase....

That was entirely my fault and I'll shout some beers at the Barry Sheene. Also thanks to Des and Aida who made sure i was okay and went and saw the medics, and to everyone else that asked how i was feeling thanks, at least i got a new set of leathers from my sponsor today [ Cnell Bikers Gear] And finally a big thumbs up to all those from the New Zealand Sidecar Racing Association who get in and make the event happen AWESOME.
