That article is totally misleading. Who knows if hes a learner rider he might have 15 years of racing under his belt!

Of course! All top racers know shorts provide better protection than a full leather suit :-)

A motorcyclist in shorts was clocked at 232km/h while "playing games" with police in Hamilton.
The 152km/h speed over the limit could be one of the highest speeds recorded on New Zealand roads.
And it didn't end well for the 21-year-old from the Tuhikaramea Rd area who was found hiding at his sister's house after fleeing down a one-way street.
The rider, already on a suspended learner licence, was initially clocked travelling at 82km/h in a 50km/h zone as he zoomed past a school on Massey St about 2pm on Thursday, Senior Sergeant Stephen Ambler of Waikato Highway Patrol said.
Later, he was clocked travelling at 147km/h in a 50km/h zone while overtaking a police car, Ambler said.
"The traffic officer initiated lights and sirens, then he was checked at 232km/h on Tuhikaramea Rd."
The rider was heading towards Temple View, Ambler said, travelling at 152km over the posted 80km/h zone.
But the speedster didn't stop there, continuing towards Pirongia on his Triumph Daytona motorcycle.
"He then went back around into the Tuhikaramea area but he was lost a number times and overtook a number of police vehicles from behind."
Ambler said police did not travel at such speeds and abandoned the pursuit after losing sight of the rider at several points.
"It would be re-initiated when he overtook police vehicles from behind. He was playing games with us really."
But police caught up with the rider in the residential area of Dinsdale about 2.30pm where the game ended in a dead end street.
"A member of the public saw him going down a particular road into a dead end street – there was no way out of there and he didn't come out."
Ambler said the rider ran to a house in the street, which turned out to be his sister's home.
"And he was hiding inside while the bike was around the back."
Police arrested the man and impounded the bike.
He was charged with reckless driving, aggravated failing to stop and driving while on a six month suspended licence.
"He'll go back to court and it will be up to the judge to determine how long he will be suspended or disqualified for."
Police had caught people around the 200km/h but not at this speed in an 80km/h zone, Ambler said.
"It is very, very high speeds – it would likely be one of the highest speeds we have checked someone there yet.
"Tuhikaramea Rd – even though it's rural it is residential area – it was very, very dangerous."
He described the rider's actions as "completely reckless", and said he not only endangered himself but other residents and road users.
Ambler said the rider was wearing a helmet but had shorts on, which could have dire consequences if he had crashed.
Waikato road police posted the radar image of the man's speed on Facebook stating, "in shorts, suspended learner licence, trying to outrun police on a very fast machine. He failed. He realises that now. That is all".
The post had attracted more than 100 comments condemning the man's actions.

Oh, they probably checked his license when they found him cringing in the woodshed. Or he told them his name as they dragged him out of the kindling, and they checked his license status over the radio as his learner license had been suspended.

He only 21 on a suspended learners so not that experienced,
Still assuming too much. He might have been riding since he was 5. A lot of riders take years before bothering to get their full. Took me 15 years. In saying that not wearing gear at that speed is pretty retarded.

Like the media you too have made the shorts the headline, like ATGATT would make any difference at all if you came off on the road at those speeds.
He was an arse having a laugh. It just so happens he was doing it on a bike. I'd imagine that all the riders falling off and hurting themselves within the speed limit are more likely to be the nails in the coffin than some dude who could just as easily have been in a car or swinging a golf club.

Had a laugh when I heard this hit talk-back radio today.
The "click(ring) bait" topic was: "This crazy rider was going really fast, should all motorcycles have speed limiters on them!?".
The first (positive) motorcycle caller was "Truck driver Fred", who ignored the actual topic, and decided to rant incoherently about motorcycle registration costs, and his personal collection of ACC stats about household slips and falls, and the cost of weekend rugby players injuring themselves.
GG random, part-time motorcyclist, keep driving that truck...

Some also claim that their penis is a lot bigger than it actually is. The truth is quite the opposite.
I dont think wearing gear at that speed would save you anyway.
Would depend on the slide. If it was clear then you might get away with just a few bruises. If not then yes not much chance of the body surviving an impact at that speed.

yup agree we 'all' did stupid shit as learners. {Hand up to even putting a 350 top end on an RD250, and as an apprentice toolmaker, skimming the bottom fin off an RD400 mill and re-stamping the engine/CC numbers, bad, BAD boy} :bash:
Thing is, even that was a fair bit slower than a 'big bike', that tosser had either a de-restricted, or, non LAM's bike that is faster than the 'superbikes' of my learner era.
Forget all the modern gubbins {tyres/electronics/ABS etc} the one thing that HASNT changed or improved is the 'advanced monkey' holding the bars.

I agree, there a good number of riders out there riding outside their licence condition's.
One glaring issue with riders of this caliber, is that it's only a matter of time before the luck really runs out. They can be caught time and time again ie: The rider on this occasion was already on a suspended learner licence. and they need to realise that their careless regard for themselves and/or other road users has a limited time frame.
Yes we can all probably admit to doing stupid shit... but there is an element out there, where it appears to be in their DNA to rinse and repeat.

Having been avoiding Auckland for years I'd be lost almost everywhere, except there. The roads around Miranda although not wide are straight. With nothing much growing above knee height you can see for miles, probably not a bad place to let the bike stretch its legs.

And no, it's not LAMS compliant.
His licence class is hypothetical because he probably isn't going to have one for some time. Jorge Lorenzo only passed his licence test a couple of years back. Eugene Laverty reportedly failed his theory test a just few weeks ago. Some people can ride quite well despite not having a licence at all.

People like this deserve to get caught, no license, riding on a bike that isn't for learner riders and reaching speeds like that through town - well that's stupid. Not sure why you responded to his post with that, but his post was correct, they are producing rolling traffic jams with the lowering of the speed limit, and the removal of passing opportunities.
Most slow travelling vehicles that drive slow in the 'tricky bits', and hold up the flow of traffic, are also speeding up to/above the speed limit on passing lanes and straights where you can actually pass, and those opportunities are few and far between.
Motorcyclists are getting taken out by frustrated or poorly skilled drivers, or all by themselves by taking risks or by having little experience, but I don't think those numbers you quoted are that significant...
The Waikato is a big place, there are more riders/drivers on the road, and it is a much more fun place to ride around in than Auckland or Hamilton...

To answer your question, it's very evident that there are those who are very quick to redirect (you included it would seem, highlighted in bold) their piss poor decisions at others, anyone but themselves by way of ''slow travelling/frustrated or poorly skilled drivers''.
Here's a hint: Don't take the risk, live another day.
What I quoted was taken from a Stuff article written in the Waikato Times.

From looking at his facebook profile, it would appear that the lad is not exactly the cream of the crop in any case. Probably thinks he is being hard done, but probably doesn't realise that it's massive blessing and has probably saved his useless life.

You're at more risk from getting taken out buy someone lifting a butt cheek to release a fart and getting distracted from the road than you are a hoon if we're being realistic.

just this morning at 6:20am im rolling into town and a muppet in a steel box rolls out through an intersection no indication, no lights on (pitch black / raining) must have still been buttering the toast or stirring their coffee as they were driving down the road... who knows. Dumb fuck still didnt turn their lights on after i flashed them.

Only while stopped, otherwise there is a very good chance you'll come off second best if moving. And lets face it, not many bikers have the balls to attack a car/driver other than online.

Prolly won't turn their lights on 'cause they can't remember to turn them off, and when it's time to go home the battery is flat.

Bin there ... done that ... it's not as easy as you think .. breaking rear vison mirrors is easier ... or snapping aerials .. a back-hand in the face through the windows also works ... scares the hell out of them to think they could be hit while driving their car ..

I'm not sure if this is a sign of poor journalism these days or whether it took the rider some time to realise he had failed to outrun the police.

The latter, some time ago, I got a call from a couple of very quick riders who had stopped after about 15 kms of 'out classing' a black Holden. When the car finally turned up, unfortunately it was a cops. Cop was reasonable about it and allowed them ride their bikes to our house which was about 25kms away, where they arrange to get the bikes back to their home in a non riding fashion.

I'd be more worried about them getting my plate and reporting me to the police - easier just to rant on here haha.
That guy did outrun them but he went back to his sisters place which is roughly where the chase started, so the neighbor snitched on him. pretty stupid really, never return to the scene of the crime, I would have gone for a ride to a cafe out of town and waited an hour or two.

And I have done it 3 times already. Once the guy pulled out right in front of me without indication or looking and then proceeded to travel at 35 in a 50km zone. He got a good waking up when came around to his drivers side and gave a gentle tap on his door with my steelcap.

In the 80s they used to have pushbike horns that played what ever sound you recorded at about 90db when you pressed the button.
Looked a lot like this: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Auto-Car-5-Sound-Tones-Metal-Housing-Alarm-Speaker-Horn-loudly-sound/550883866.html?spm=2114.40010308.4.1.SkDoAd
My brother had one, as did many young boys in Rotorua in the mid to late 80s.
I am not sure who exactly but I recall someone recording a bloodcurdling scream on one and playing it back when ever they approached an open car window and the driver was smoking, eating, or otherwise distracted from moving forward at lights stop signs etc.
Almost everyone dropped whatever they had in their lap (I was told of a few people dropping cigarettes) but a few things were cast out the open windows.
IIRC my brothers one got confiscated after he played a siren noise at a car for some reason... either the car was a an unmarked car or cop saw him do it.

Familiar story from my Rotorua days (late 70's) a mate got hold of a hand turned fire siren and we thought it a good, no fricken awesome idea, to drive around the city and parts thereof, using our newly acquired piece of equipment out an open window. Right behind another car got the best reaction.

Lol. If we are talking 4 wheeled a mate fitted a small compressor and tank to his boot and a foot operated valve on the floor.
This was connected to the scavenged horns from a locomotive hidden under the body of his Hillman Hunter.
First time I heard that from behind me I very nearly "evacuated".
