Hi All

I'm having issues with my 1980 XT250 - major kick back... painful ;) Decompressor is not working. Is timing out?
Any advice would be gratefully received.

if the decomp isn't working its likely the cable adjustment is wrong or the cable has come actually come adrift.
Its been years since I played with a XT but they I think have a cover and timing marks and maybe actually direct actuation off the cam?

I could have a google but you might be better off just googling an online manual.
Xt250 were very easy to kick over back in the day. I remember that much.
They also had a rather bad habit of the rear mount that doubled as a swingarm pivot getting stuck to the bushes.
They had to be cut out, (as the rubber outer just spung back when wacked hard with a hammer and drift.)
I am pretty sure the Japanese were well aware of electrolysis when they designed it. But didn't care.

Most decompression systems release the decompression function when it fires ... not necessarily when it is running.

When you kick it over ... kick it like you mean it. Otherwise (as you have found) it kicks back.

But seriously ... a decompressor on a 250? Even the Brit singles never did that ...

No no ...

If it's running OK when you get it running (I presume you do get it running) then the timing is fine.

If you use the decompressor to turn it over till just before TDC .. then kick it to start it you should be OK ...

CDI Unit - wiring wrong. Purchased a manual, thanks for the link Husa ;)
