Wait for it, wait for it, the participants of the 2016 HD Iron Run have paid $75 for a pie for tea.:weep:
Not only but also they had to watch the head bosses eat in comfort of a flash hotel.
Welcome to the corporate world chaps (no pun intended)
Hold ya hats its all gonna go off real soon.:ar15:

So I read elsewhere..
The WORST HOG rally ever...paper bag dinner consisting of a pie, a cold quiche, and a pot of yogurt... expensive drinks and it's raining...all for $75 per person.

TBH I'm pretty gutted seeing this all over facebook and now here. Not sure who should be flogged but flogged they should be. The Iron Run was the biggest thing I have seen in Paihia, quite amazing. And I'm no fan of cruisers. Over the last few days it has been bike heaven up here, and wait for it.... Lots of waving and acknowledgement despite me riding a rice burner. A huge amount of money, time, and effort must have gone into the event. Town has been buzzing with it for days. Awesome.
It's a shame some tight arse has left such a bad taste.:pinch:

And that is what it should be all about, not the price or size of the feed.
I have paid $50 just to get into a rally and ive eaten some horrid food while sleeping in a tent in gail force winds.
Now thats what a rally is all about.

We used to do a Northland ride (three years running @ 26 bikes max) and for $150 per person, we got two nights accommodation right on the beach/two cooked breakfasts/Two evening meals (one BBQ Tea and One Hangi Tea)
Another ride we just $10 off everyone (24 people) and ordered Pizzas delivered to the camp. We had money left over for a tray of eggs/bacon/beans and bread for the BBQ the next morning. $240 buys a lot of food. We even had a chef on that ride so bonus.

Sounds good either way.
Nobody cares really, all you want is some bed somewhere and a bit of grub, the ride there and the ride back with good mates is where its at.
I'm about to do 3 weeks Sth Island and i can assure you it wont be flash.
It's all about roughing it for me. Thought that was what biking was all about.

Roughing it? yeah we know about that. We almost had to stay in a three star motel once in Milton, luckily we found a three star + further north in Mosgeil, close call.

The problems, such as they are, may be more to do with the second part of that. The motorcycling events I've been to have been "classless", everyone has been treated the same.
In other events though the stuffed-blazer types like to treat themselves at the expense of the members/competitors/athletes/whatever. If it becomes apparent that this is occurring unrest follows.

I have to agree with that.
Rallies aren't the place for the toff to be fair. Lets face it, it's a bike rally, not ball room dancing.
HD has been going that way for many years now so it appears to be at that point fully right now.
Shame really as some of those rallies were great times for me and many others i'm sure.
They should get back to the basics i think.
From what i can see there is plenty of HD riders that expect the high life at these events, Sorry guys but this isnt what rallies are all about.
Maha.... 3 star in Milton, you lucky bugger. I'm fortunate enough to have a mate with a brilliant lifestyle block in those parts so i can get free bed there.

You pussy, I'm taking the bike down south in June/July for the same length of time. Might leave the tent behind and get cabins for the most part tho'.

Haha good call. Cabins are good too. No amenities like tv etc so close to a tent except for the tin roof.
I did June last time down there and it was brilliant. Road up to Milford in -5. Now that was an experience.

'Moron Mansion' (aka Otago Correctional Facility) don't constitute 'a brilliant lifestyle block'!:killingme:rofl:

And a decent feed, much better than a pie in a bag.

Why does that not surprise me!
At least i wouldn't be expecting anything more than that for the price.
After all, it is what it is, somewhat like a bike rally to be fair. They aren't corporate affairs.

$75- for a pie?
Guess it must be HD "officially authorised" and approved by the HD marketing department.

I'm surprised Hardleys could even make it to Paihia... unless all the participants had to be from Wangarei.

I know a guy who was on this ride from akld, said there were 3 accidents on the trip, one involving 3 Hardleys goin the same way following too close to each other , he said they all rode like muppets on meth, :tugger:

I ran into an Aussie rider who'd come over and gone to Paihia ... had a great time except for the food and the band (Imported from Townsville) - said it was organised and paid for by HD Australia and he was going back to complain ... He loved everything else except the food and the band

I met riders heading back to Paihia from Invergiggle ... they were on the ferry and heading back to Invergiggle via the West Coast .. so they pretty much made it the full length of Godzone AND back again ...

Witnessed some thoughtless riding meself. But to be fair, I was on the road, on me bike, for 3 or 4 days over the event and the vast majority of riders (a lot) were cruising along quite happily. Stick 1500 bikes of any description in one place and you will find fuck knuckles. I have a video of someone doing a burnout in the car park before the big ride, HD's parked like cheese slices, erm...... I'm pretty sure it's an Aprilia making all the smoke. Go figure.
Great vibe IMHO.
If the Iron run comes back up here I volunteer to do the catering. 2 pies at least and a hotdog on a stick.
