So the lesson is, if you fall off but somehow get your leg stuck and the bike carries on dragging you down the road for a few hundred metres around several corners, it's better to be wearing the more expensive, fully lined kind of jeans?

As tests go, this one seems a little extreme.

Those jeans only had 20kg in them.... If you had a rider at, say, 80kg rider at 100kmh, a significantly shorter slide would still do the same, or more damage, because of the friction

Without any other knowledge (at this stage) I'd suggest there are biker jeans, and biker jeans. Some are much better than others. (And at the moment, I have no idea if the vid features good ones or not. :) )

I ride to commute to work in Draggin' jeans ... I haven't dropped a bike yet to tell you how they faired.

I ride long distance in leather .. not an issue ..

Yep after impact friction or grip on the road is your next worry.If you hook up and tumble also then more damage is done.Poor choice in material can see this happen.

We were jeans around the village or on a super hot day on the old bike - leather or armoured textile on longer trips on big bike... cant see an issue

Lets keep it simple.

If you are going to wear jeans (lots of people do), motorcycle jeans of any sort are better than just plain old jeans.

Safer is a question of degree.

What appears to be the issue though, is are the really pricey ones any better than cheaper ones.

I have BMW City 2 jeans, and they are excellent. They weren't that dear either. I don't care the find out how they function in a crash, but I'm happy that I'm better off in them than common-garden-variety Lee jeans.

I lost the front one day ('70's) and my right leg was trapped under the bike (British bike, non folding pegs or kickstarter) and I was carried down the road until we slammed into the bank. I was wearing 2 pairs of jeans (this was the '70's remember) and the outer pair were a bit scuffed up, but not too much damage, the inner pair untouched. My fingers really stung as I went down the road backwards on my front, clawing the road in a futile attempt to slow the bike down.

I reinforce my jeans by wearing nylon over trousers. :brick::brick: I did try the proper riding trou, but never found a pair that felt right. Should look harder I suppose:crazy:

Yeah .. I remember those days ... I still have the two pair of jeans hanging in my garage ... they are flared - so the hid my steelcaps when I was standing up .
