So, has anyone been there that can tell us if it is worth the trip from Christchurch? Younger boy getting used to new wheels/manual clutch so looking for some easy trails and the rest of the family also keen for a blat somewhere different. Anyone know how many kms of trail?

We went to check out Ashburton Motorbike Park this afternoon, and it was just the ticket for some easy family riding on a hot day. We are not talking endless kilometres of trails, but what is there provided us with several hours of good fun. There are three tracks - a circuit for mini bikes, an easy 5 km loop with small jumps, and a third track about 2.5km with bigger jumps and berms. Plenty of shade and a viewing platform for those that aren't riding, with walking trails and the river nearby.
There is a donation box to help with maintenance costs.

Sounds fun, where is it exactly, South of the Ashburton river or out west .... or east

End of Cochranes Rd; southeast end of ashvagas off Wakanui Rd.
Truth be known myself & a good mate cut one of the tracks many years ago after getting drunk & towing a bloody great tree stump around for an hr or 2 behind my old landcruiser. Went back the following day with a few mates & their bikes and formed the track properly; got harassed by the council because it wasn't legal but it got popular real fast
