Damn headache this bike is starting to be.

To start with I might just say that I am mechanically challenged. Workshops love it when I mess with stuff cause it usually means there is more for them to fix.

But I have already overextended teh budget for getting this bike on the road and now after only 250k of riding the clutch is slipping like crazy.

A new clutch kit is going to set me back about $350 +$150 fitting but there is a 2 week wait according to the bike shop cause they are out of clutch plates and need more from Ozzie.

So I am looking for a good place to get an aftermarket clutch kit for it. Hopefully for cheaper but more importantly sooner. i would hate to park the bike up for another 2 weeks. It has been too long as it is.

Being as some bright fellow might want to point out something I missed/don't know I better explain exactly what happens.

If you idle and release clutch is does what is expected. Bike moves. If you apply a bit of throttle then it is generally ok. When you get to about 8000rpm the needle goes striaght to redline. (11 or 12000 or something).

If you stay under 8000rpm and ride with little and gentle throttle you can't really tell the clutch is slipping.

If you caine the crap out of it from the mark then you just go nowhere. Well you can be doing 10000rpm in 3rd and only doing 40k/hour.

I have had it suggested that the clutch springs might be at fault and might fix the problem with replacing the springs which are cheap. Thoughts on this?

Was the clutch OK before (during your 250k run?) my first point of contact would be the cable (gsx600f has cable) disconnect and ride without clutch.

Second point, pull the case off and inspect the plates, they should be tight, if all looks good loosen the bolts (x6) on the face evenly around until you can remove the 1/2 basket and remove the plates (keep them inorder)

You then have a few options, good pads= beed blast the steel disks, shit pads= new pads or put washers behind the springs and/or add one more plate (2 accually steel and fibre) this wont fix it real good... only new pads and possibly spings will but it'll get you on the road again.

Clutches are rellitivly simple... pull in the clutch, seperates the disks and allows the crank to run free, let out the clutch, the plates compress tightly to drive the gear box... have a go, you cant really go wrong. :done:

Just a thought --off base but maybee the case-what oil did ya use--might just be a case of oil wrong. --probably not but possible.
I'd drop henry at takinini wreckers a PM--(TAKA) or kerry at motohause --they can probably get ya a cheaper clutch kit

Ill have a play with it tomorrow. I will probably bite the bullet and send it into town and get it fixed good. if I can play around with it so I have drive I will use it till the parts show up.

The clutch felt ok before the 250k run. it would "let go" at about the 8-9000rpm. I have been nursing it a bit and not really riding hard.

I have no idea what oil is in it. I only just brought it and haven't had much of a chance to ride it. I have taken it for 1 ride of about 250k.

I have takinini wreckers number round here somewhere. I might give him a call. He was great with getting the rear disc sorted.
