View Full Version : Fixed tyre, should I ride it at the drags?

Hi all, I know that asking for an opinion on the internet is fairly silly but here goes. I've fixed my rear SuperCorsa with one of those external sticky rope type kits. So how good a fix is it? Can I ride at 220k down the drag strip?

Cheers

Of course you can...

The real question will is whether or not you will still be on the bike and the bike in one piece if you do....

Yes, but it has a high likelihood of ending very badly - especially if the tyre is significantly worn.

The manufacturers of the repair camel-snot thingies specify riding only as far as the nearest repair shop and at lower tyre pressures.

It actually seems like a silly question, for the instructions with a string type repair kit should state temporary fix only. Now I've done a few hundred clicks of gentle road running with a string repair, but taking a bike to the dragstrip with one is not something I'd be keen on.

ignore these pussies, they probably dont even have bikes and are just internet wannabes.

The science behind vulcanising patches is solid, just be sure to warm the whole tyre up evenly by doing 3rd gear burnouts for a few mins before you're race.

No you should not. Get it fixed properly.

If it survives the compulsory warm up prior, then it will hang on for another 10 seconds or so but EJ has a point, make sure the Go Pro is switched on at the time as well.

$5 says 10 minutes to push it to the finish.

Would be an addition to the "How not to do stuff" file on YouTube me thinks...

No to the drags and id say you wouldn't get past scrutineer anyway....

Years ago I had a string repair in GSXR tyre and kinda forgot about it after a few days. From memory think it was in there awhile, maybe I got lucky. It did smear the exposed end halfway around the tyre though lol.

I've just internally patched a tyre on the gsxr after coming home late ona long trip with only 6 psi in it, the bike handled surprising well still, at first I just thought it was the crappy road conditions....
Anyhow I wont be going above 100 or giving it too much welly once its back on.....

Get a new tyre. No manufacturer guarantees a repaired tyre, and the recommendation is always that you replace the tyre. And no, it isn't just about selling tyres.
Of course, as you say, the Internet will possibly offer other suggestions. Good luck with that.

What could possibly go wrong?

WTF do you need the string for? Pull it out and go hardcore. No pressure though.

OP You do realize those round black things both ends of your bike are an important component.
To ask a question as you posed can only suggest the cheese has already slid off the cracker.
Is your next question Will it be OK to wear jandels as Ill only have one foot on the ground lining up on the grid.
Quite simply if you dont value your life your tyre will be fine .
Fit for purpose as it were .
