View Full Version : Giant motorway holdup

Thankfully I rode the bike this morning.

Got on to the Bridge going south and the traffic just was stopped. Filtered all the way to Newmarket flyover (6 km?) and there was an accident involving two cars. A people mover was on it's side facing the wrong way against the outside wall of the flyover and a car nose into the center wall, two out of four lanes closed.

By the time I reached the accident site there were four bikes filtering in a group, and once passed the accident the road was almost empty - great ride from there to work.

Bet the tail back went right up the northern motorway before it started moving at any speed.

One for the bike!

People are stupid, inattention while driving is primarily the cause of accident's on a Motorway. Any M/way accident is a needless and avoidable, yet they still happen because of the first three words of this post.

Yeup. Still plenty on their mobile (how many drivers think hands free includes putting it on speaker and holding up to your face?!), following too close and not watching the road ahead...

Some simple basics would improve the situation greatly. Oh, and stop fucken gawking at an accident when passing. You're part of the fucken problem.

LMFAO, haven't heard that saying since I left Auckland 10 yrs ago.

They only just allowed filtering in QLD (late last year), so its not well practiced there, so coming back to kiwiland has got me doing it again.

This.
Aucklanders are terrible. All it takes is a car with its bonnet up on the side of the motorway and everybody needs to slow down and have a gawk. Another hour in traffic for the sheeple because everybody needs to slow down to look at another broken down poxy holden...

I clicked on this thinking there had been a good old fashioned American style "holdup" only to find it is just another day in Auckland!

Headed west through Westgate at 9.40 this morning. Traffic still parked and attempting to get towards town.

I laughed.

You guys are fuckin screwed, and this is just the start of it.
A mate over from the UK recently said that the only time you aren't in a traffic jam on the M1 is at 4am, get used to it Aucklanders.

The smart companies are moving south. Cheaper rent, cheaper staff & no traffic woes.
Brother has set up their NZ headquarters just down the road from me.

Had a fun time coming home - Police had to stop the Motorway top pick up a Cargo Strap.

So I filtered to the front - had a lovely clear stretch of HW1 by Wairau park - once the Cop had cleared the strap - gave us the Thumbs up to Proceed.

Clear Motorway + Hayabusa + good excuse to try my hand at 0-100 = Fun.

And for a few seconds - I had clear Motorway ahead of me, Clear motorway behind, in peak hour traffic.

Ahh the simple pleasures of Aucklanders.
Did you just see what you wrote?
Down here you can have that & a fast winding TT on your own every night on your 12 minute commute. But hey, Auckland is where it's at apparently.

I don't understand the obsession with the CBD. Why does everyone want to be there? Albany has a business park, Highbrook as well, and that's still main Auckland (plenty of other options). Instead we have people commuting from the north to south of the bridge (and v.v) not to mention from Hamilton...

Then again, I'm hardly a saint. I don't commute much, but travelling between clients can mean anything between Orewa and beyond Pokeno (ideally never those 2 or close, in a day).

You've got to be kidding yourself to think there's only skilled people in Dorkland, wake up and smell the roses mate. There's real skills all over this fine country and some of us get to work in 7 minutes on a pushy:2thumbsup

I like Auckland.

And yes, it was a simple pleasure - the only problem was that I was just starting to really enjoy it when I noticed the needle tick passed 100....

It's not Aucklanders, it's just people.

I've been in jams here (Wellington) caused by people slowing down for the flashing lights warning them of the tractor mowing grass well off the road.

When the road's at capacity, the slightest slow-down at some point makes the traffic build up.

But at least I can expierence roll on acceleration to 100kmh more than once a year & don't find it so exciting as to need to post it on the net, it's almost mundane in buttfuck nowhere these days actually. :msn-wink:

Well around my work there is at least 5 $15 million + warehouses being built. Will be heaps of new jobs. Good staff get good money as they are hard to get up here.

Yes. I get a 20-minute blast to work, mostly on the open road with just enough traffic to make it fun ... and the occasional pop for spice ..

and the biggest issue in the nearest town is whether to let people ride their horses in town, because they shit on the street and leave hoof prints in the berms .. (I'm serious ... ) and the front page picture on yesterday's newspaper was of kids who had grown giant pumpkins .. ya gotta love small town New Zealand ..

It was costing me $100 a week to live somewhere it took me 2mins to walk to work from ;)

I guess if you took into account the running costs of my shoes, it was really $102.50 or something.

Wrong .. I sometimes go that way - to play in the Waimana Gorge .. it's not 20 minutes from Taneatua to Whakatane - it's only 12 ks ..

Every time I've been in Opotiki I've seen at least one kid bareback on a horse in town... makes me chuckle that I'm definitely not in a city any more...
