I have had many bikes of all types over the years, some features/ accessories on these bikes are good some not so good.
Some standard features, others aftermarket bits and peices.
Just thought I would be a positive kiwi and note a few things I like on my bikes I have now, and why dont other manufacturers incorporate them into thier models.
Not interested in the things we dont like.
(the list would go on forever)

HARLEY
1)- The petrol cap is on the high side of the tank while the bike is on a sidestand, great idea other bikes I have had require the bike to be on a centre stand to get a full tank of petrol. Why not leave your bike on a side stand at petrol stations, great idea
2) Self cancelling indicators just great would love this feature on all my bikes.
3) Oil dipstick can check on side stand, dont need to to put on centrestand, or try and hold bike vertical while checking f...n sight glass
4) Belt drive, love it. Smooth , no snatch like chain , no oil mess, no clunk like driveshaft , very smooth, no noisy clatter. Agree they can some times pick up sharp stones, chains give issues too, see Ducati are moving some bikes to belt drive, interesting.
5) Decent sounding horn, not a high pitched squeak.

BMW GS
1) Seating ergonomics , lovely comfortable position to sit for hours, you can stand up on foot pegs to give your arse a rest after many hours of riding.
2) Telelever front suspension setup, no suspension dive when braking, great love it.

They are both Italian:yes:

Not new so no new gadgets to like but the St4s is the best all round bike I have owned. 10 years and very reliable. Still has original battery! Tweaked by myself over the years to suit me but fantastic bike. Good things are 21km per litre, comfortable, great handling, reliable, great sound, powerful enough and flies under the radar.

RSV Factory......not sure yet....has nice bright colours:facepalm:

I guess I really like that they both have character.

Digital speedo: It's not my bike specific but I've always found analogue speedo a bit nuisance. It's just a little thing that makes my brain easier to process.

Quickshifter: Makes my riding a bit more lazier. Nothing major but a "good to have" tech.

Actually fair point on the digital speedo. Had one on my GS1000ss and now on my Ducati. Instant speed number. Heaps better than a dial.

I do however like a dial for a rev counter - nothing like watching that arm swing around.

Sound. Ducati, termignoni mufflers. Bliss.

Actually shit loads of good things.

The colour - Ducati red. After a steady long diet of black I like how in a sea of black bikes mine fair glows.

Last owner of my Bandit fitted handguards/barkbusters.
Never thought I'd say this, but " they keep your hands warm AND Dry and they stop a shit load of nasty things hitting your hands, should be standard equipment on all road bikes, no need for heated grips with these things on board.

Yamaha had them in the early 70's at least from the coffin tanked RD's onwards Plenty of the early 80's suzukis had them as well, I guess they went out of fashion.
You could stick out an arm or a leg like the good ol days...........
A few 250 and 305CC kawa's had belt rear in the 70's as well.

Yeah GS BMW have these as standard. Great idea, especially in winter and the rain.

Handy:
It has a clock.
Digital speedo.

Meh:
Lap timer.

PITA:
Only one of the headlights goes on low beam. The other is the high. Wish it just had dual low/hi's
Digital rev counter. MEH!

EJK, I miss the digital speedo on my Aprilia's.

The BMW,
Comfort and you can move around and lean forward or sit a bit more upright. I've done a couple of 1200-1400km days on her.
Duolever front end - no dive, can brake in corners, super stable at high speed. Only down side is it feels a bit vague at slow speeds
ESA- just touch the button and adjust the suspension settings, great for on the fly changes.
Paralever rear end shaft drive- has two pivot points, doesn't twist like some other shaft drives. No oiling and cleaning a bloody chain.
MRA double bubble screen - two inches taller than standard, but not to tall. Also has black out at the bottom that acts as a sun shield for the dials.
TPS - makes checking your pressures easy to do on the fly. Quick note, the battery for it is $500 plus fitting and then configuring the bikes computer to read it again.
BMW tankbag- fits perfect and is shaped to continue the angle of the tank so you can lean against it.

1. Cruising speed @ 1750 rpm in overdrive... quiet, & smooth.
2. Effortless acceleration; just crank the throttle.
3. Don't notice if touring luggage on board due to engine size :-)
4. 140+ miles between refueling (yeah, I don't do these newfangled kilometers...)
5. It's a V8.

Pics or it didn't happen.

Oh Ye of Little Faith.

But since you ask nicely... this was a recent run from LA (Harbor City) to Carmel, and back - up the PCH, then back on the 101.

This pic was taken gassing up before climbing The Hill back on the 101. Immature, but fun; I cranked it hard with added NOS on the uphill sector and passed absolutely everything including Chargers, Camaros and Corvettes. They passed me again downhill - but hey, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot; why should I care, by then I was back in Laidback Cruise Mode. As you can see, luggage weight is immaterial when you've got 650 hp on tap (502 hp by dyno with the V8 engine, plus a 150hp shot of nitrous on demand...)

1, Its not a japper
2, Its not a wog.
3, Its got nothing to do with Triumph NZ.
4, Its comfortable.
5, Its big
6,It makes the right sound.
7, Its just done 100k and still runs and looks like a new bike
8, The best dealer and after sales service ever.
9, Funny but I trust the company who made it.
10, Handels cross winds brillantly (after a big tourer/sail)
11, Did I mention its not from the land of the rising sun.
12, It was not designed with planned redudency built in.
13, It was designed to be easy and cheap to maintain.
14, Its not pleasant to ride at loss of licence speeds.

Gear indicator.

Oh yes, I'm surprised how many bikes didn't come with this. Some people would say "You should be remembering what gear you're in in your head!" but because I'm so stupid I like to see exactly what gear I'm currently in without guessing.

Very handy.

Favourite things you like about your motorcycle? That would have to be the 256 LED bike wheel light kit (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php/178405-256-led-bike-wheel-light?p=1130962520#post1130962520) I just fitted.

I chose my first Suzuki M50 because I wanted a mid-sized cruiser (750 to 900 cc), belt or shaft drive, something I could get my feet flat on the road on, and I wanted the instruments up on the bar not down on top of the tank.

I don't know why manufacturers can't calibrate that little oil level sight glass to show the oil level when the bike is on it's side stand - I'm going to make one of those lever bike lifts (2 x 8 x 2s screwed together, or an 8 x 4, pipe flange screwed onto the back of one of them, and you thread in a 1" pipe through a 32 mm hole through the wood into it to use as your handle when you want to ease the bike off the ground or stand it upright.

BANDITS ..

They pass Harley's with ease .. I fucken' love teasing them on the road ..

Hmmm, having previously owned a 1200 bandit , my BMW would leave it for dead around any tight windy roads.
Maybe not in a straight line, bandits have a ton of grunt.
I think your only fooling yourself.
When I ride my Harley I could not give a stuff what sports bike passes me and thinks they are fast.
You do not own or ride a Harley for those reasons. Dont fool yourself that any Harley rider may be jealous of a Bandit, or any other sports bike and its performance. Sorry to burst your bubble.

Chuck some decent fork springs in and a Busa shock and it will keep up with most non-hypersports. And will cost less than a BMW service.

I love the grunt.:shit:

Love the brakes, though front rotors may be getting replaced.

I love the ergos, plushness and comfort (1240km in a day).

I really like the fact that it's economical (managed 359km from a tank).

Finding this bike rather addictive and have clocked up 31,000km in 14 months.:)
