View Full Version : Helen Clark

Aunty Helen evidently feels that she has a 'Stadium of 4 million' backing her in her bid for the role as Secretary General of the United Nations , as reported.

That's implying every one in New Zealand, is voting HC as the 'Man' ...so to speak .., for the role.

Am I missing something here ?

Like the flag - I don't mind the change just didn't like the cost - likewise - don't mind that she gets another useless job but to hell with paying for it! :oi-grr:

Sadly, Klerke is alongside other useless, sycophantic fuckwits who are trying to get the world to comply with their ideologies.

No recent evidence via the media on her accomplishments or, lack of them which is interesting.

I'd rate Helen in the same bracket , in the PM's role, as Jenny Shipley and Jim Bolger .

Un-likeable and ineffective . Ideologically bouncing on the same diving board as Mr Sue Bradford.

At least the further up the UN ladder she climbs, the less likelihood of her coming back to here and doing great deeds. The great 'Toothless Tiger' can have her. :shifty:

You're a bunch of ill-informed fuckwits.

She is very intelligent, driven, and qualified for the gig, and I hope she gets it. She runs the UNDP for fucks sake which spends billions of dollars - she is already #3 in the organisation so moving up two spots would be a massive coup for her and also the NZ gubblemunt gets some kudos from it.

Try and separate the politics from the person and look on the positve side you bunch of whining cunts. Fuck.

Maybe just maybe the UN would grow a backbone under her governance. I find them disturbingly without clout.

I'm a little conflicted about this.

On the one hand, Helen would seem to be an ideal candidate - She's from somewhere that no one really hates, she is good at what she does and the prestige associated with the job would be great for NZ.

On the other hand, I wasn't a huge fan of her Policies when she was PM here and IMO the UN has lost its way in recent times, especially in regards to its Peacekeeping - its feels more and more like it is turning into the League of Nations....

But that all said, if anyone can put some zest back into the UN, It's Helen.

She's probably got more balls than most of the others in the UN, and is far less likely to have millions in backhanders squirrelled away in a tax haven somewhere.

Unfortunately the UN has just become another body politic, and the main aim of the members is to not upset anyone lest they should get booted out of their comfy chair, and the last thing they want to do is upset big business who really control the events of the world.

Can't see it happening, Secretaries General are usually pretty bland aren't they? Which Helen is most definitely not.

However she's also an extremely shrewd political operator, and wouldn't have put her name in the hat without some idea of the support she can muster, so maybe.

Helen is a long shot at best. Using the normal UN yardstick it's Eastern Europe's turn to provide a Secretary General. There is also a feeling in the corridors of impotence that it's time to have a woman in the role. As it happens there are several apparently strong female candidates from Eastern Europe.

Helen won't really get a look in unless the Eastern European females, for one reason or another, are found unsuitable and some sort of impasse arises. If at that point the member nations start looking for a compromise candidate she may come in for consideration. Until then her confidence that she's the right person for the job doesn't mean very much.

Maybe - but the US and others are off-side with the Eastern Bloc - and the US has a Veto .. as does the UK - and they may well use their veto powers. As will Russia if it doesn't like a US-backed candidate.

Helen is a nice, non-aligned candidate ... a good chance at this time ..

The complete indifference and consequent inaction from the UN with the Rwandan genocide still resonates with me .

I'm interested in what Helen has actually achieved in her time with the UN to date. How many people are happier because of her current role in the UN and will be if she gets the big job ? I haven't heard anything. Never read the headlines 'Thanks to Helen Clark at the UN ....'

Still waiting .....

The world is a scarier place than it's ever been in recent times but I haven't heard for years that the UN has made it better in places where it really matters . In fact it's probably worse . What's the current UN plan with North Korea ?

Or West Africa ? Sudan ? Or Belarus throwing a different coin into the hat here ... The Middle east ?

Best thing to happen in bars and restaurants was to get rid of the obnoxious smelly smokers. Don't see how it killed them off, there are more bars and restaurants now than there ever was.

If that was Helens doing, good stuff.

Yes - will give Helen Clark credit for that - vast social improvement - a pleasure to enjoy social gatherings now by comparison!

Criticised the way it was done but then asked self - how else could she have done it? - Big ups for that!

Helen is at best only an outside chance . What has she achieved in the UN that's made the world better ?

Nothing.

The UN has, for years , been toothless and unable to produce the results that it was originally designed to produce.

I bet no-one can remember the last time a UN 'spokesman' made a statement on the media that translated into something that made things happen and people better off.

I can't .

And, as for the ' I've got 4M people in the stadium vouching for me' comment she made, I think she's slightly delusional on that aspect for a start

Eradication of smallpox, polio etc.... there's thousands of tangible goods the UN has done.... as they don't just focus on military interventions. WHO, WTO are all part of the UN....

The Shit arm of the UN = security council which surprise surprise made up of the major war mongers...
