I've got some kayaba USDs to go on the klr. One of the sliders has a few nicks and scratches, large enough to catch a fingernail. Besides sanding these smooth, is there any other way of reliably fixing these so they don't tear the seals? Obviously a new slider would be the best fix but would prefer not to go down that track.

Fill the hole with epoxy then lightly sand off any high spots.

Does that work better than epoxy? Would look better I would have thought.

Will try the epoxy, assuming I can get it clean enough to stick. Looks are unimportant (its a KLR after all)

I heard that you apply a propane flame to the area to burn off any oil.....then epoxy it.

I've used araldite on road-going USD forks before. The fix worked well and wasn't particularly noticeable.
I used a carb cleaner type spray solvent to remove any oil from the area first.
