I fancy a topbox for the GTR. The Givi one will cost in excess of $600. I came accross the RJays 45L for what seems to be a bargain price. Apparently it will vertually bolt straight on. What do you think?

That sounds like a deal. But $600 is a lot for a Givi. we have 45 litre 'Simply' models for around $250.

If you go for the Rjays, check the interior points where fasteners enter, and any other exposed screw heads for sharp edges.

If you have a spare helmet bouncing around, you can end up with nasty scratches.

You can remedy this with self-adhesive rubber pieces the same sort of shape as puncture repair patches.

Thanks, I'll be check to make sure there are no sharp edges exposed.
I did a 'Google' search and amazingly couldn't find any reviews on these suckers. If I go ahead and get one, maybe I'll be the first.

Looks alright, albeit kinda like a Givi knockoff.

The thing will be the details; Givi have had a long time to get many/most of the bugs ironed out, so hopefully the RJays version isn't too much of a prototype. Worth a gamble if it saves you serious coin.

Doesn't look like it includes the rack. Does the GIVI include the rack?

Anyway, I need one (hard, lockable) boot for my SP1 but don't have much money. Any idea what my options are? It should fit a helmet at least.

Givi don't list one for SP1's.

I know....who in their sane mind would list luggage for SP1? :argh:

The Givi rack was $152 on it's own! The Rjays I'm told fits straight onto the rack at the GTR back end.

GIVI do have a universal fitting that adapts to most bikes that GIVI dont have a specialised rack for. Just be aware that the universal fitting does stick out pretty wide. Have a look at http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=7425&highlight=gs1200ss to see how I fitted GIVI luggage to a bike that wasn't supposed to accept hard luggage.

Had it fitted on today with a few mod's to the bracket, to match the bolt holes on the bike. Looks tidy. I'm pleased with it.

I'm reluctant to recommend universal mounts unless I know they've been fitted to a particular bike.

Update: The mounting plate cracked. Supplier replaced it and I have now fitted it with a metal plate under it to give it more strength. Except for the plate cracking, it is a great box.
If anyone buys one, make sure you strengthen the plate first.

From memory the more expensive Givi top boxes have built-in lights. Perfect for those Goldwing "glow in the dark" moments...

I've spoken to a guy who put brake lights in his RJays box. Wouldn't mind getting mine done.
